My first thought as well - the Ds are desperate to stop that from happening because every advance they have gotten in the last fifty years has come through the courts rather than through the ballot box...

The Democrats are fiendishly cunning and devious. They have planned ahead and are committed to fighting for their agenda.
Unfortunately the Republicans are pathetically weak and rarely, if ever, fight for anything. The Dems outmaneuver them time and again. If RGB passes, you can bet that the Dems will find a way to stall her replacement through the election.
