I had a root canal and with a titanium crown for $700, cost in the US would be over $3500.
Interesting.
I have a friend who’s been to this town and hes had 7 implants and you can’t tell 8 1/3 the cost
So overall, how was the experience? Some here making it sound like going there, you’ll be greater by Pablo in a sombrero with a pair of players and tequila for novocaine.
And too far from the west coast.
But I’d like to go there (half Hungarian).
All tap water in Los Cabos, Baja Sur, where I’ll be getting dental work done, is the output of desalination processing with chemicals added to prevent water-borne diseases. But many people still drink bottled water out of fear/habit.
Dengue fever is a greater concern, but the actual incidence most years is low.
Well, perhaps if we had tort reform and less free everything government, the industry would not be so inclined to set arbitrary prices the tax payers and insurances must pay to the assortment of extortionists.
Also, maybe if the language on abortion were changed, whereby real medical abuse was prosecuted instead of frivolous lawsuits promoted by the abortion language favoring sueing doctors who actually make a genuine attempt to save lives, people would actually have to be extorted less for wanting life and a healthy one.
Last but not least, the problem is not the cost of getting your teeth fixed in America, it is the added side costs of peripheral add ons and procedures that are not needed but that the doctors sell, much like a car mechanic saying your struts need to be changed on your car when they are fine and probably not a sound investment.
No complaints on my online Chinese-owned lab glasses. Cheapest pair I had was $39 and the most expensive was $130 (progressive with all options and nice frames). Costco examination and Rx for under $100 has worked out well. Optometrist does generally dilate my eyes for retinal exam.
I understand the struts/shocks analogy but exactly what dental "peripheral add ons and procedures that are not needed" are you referring to? I've never encountered such a thing and have had lots of dental work at lots of dentists.
That is why you haven't paid out the big bucks. Try pricing root canals, crowns and implants. One implant that needed a bone graft cost me over $5,000.
I almost read that wrong
Thought it said renal exam
What?! "Rectal exam," you say?
Regards,
“Ok to get your teeth cleaned there but dont drink the water.”
Depends on where you’ve been living - lots of folks on well water don’t have the same issues because they’ve been “inoculated”...
Flights to Vegas are really cheap, and I love driving, so it’s not a big deal. I know folks in Parker, Lake Havasu, Quartzsite, Needles, etc. so I make a visiting vacation out if it.
I checked with our local dental school, you have to fit a criteria. I don’t fit it. Insurance...we are Medicare/Tricare Life as hubby spent 20 yrs in the Navy retiring as a SCPO. So no Dental.
Had 11 lower teeth left, some time in the night the crown came lose in the last molar, cracking it down the center. No crown to be found, since it was gold hubby got his metal detector out. No luck, dentist pulled the cracked dead roots. That left me with 10 painful lower front teeth. Thought it would be simple to just get those pulled as they were bowed outward, spreading and painful due to medication I have to take causing receding gums. And you need molars to chew and I had none now. Both uppers and lowers.
Well it didn’t go well, Bone Spurs had to be taken off, then the jaw Re-sculpted. Might as well say 3 surgeries. I’m a 5 Autoimmune patient, my dentist of 20+ yrs has no knowledge of Autoimmune’s So the RED DYE I react to caused problems as did the chemicals the teeth are made of. Most he’s ever done is fillings and 1 root canal. 10 months and no lower teeth.
There are 1OO known Autoimmune diseases. The 1 big thing most have in common is sensitivity to dyes and chemicals. My mouth was on fire the day he put them in and never stopped even after a round of Prednisone, they were so large they had to be Relined before they came near fitting. It’s been 3 months, nothing has changed. The denture doesn’t fit right, the dye is a big issue. Nor do they adhere with any of the denture adhesives. I’ve been told there is NO product for Autoimmune patients. All in all with 3 surgeries, dentures, reline about $8 k for just a lower denture not fit to wear. Hubby has worn dentures for years the gum material is a light pink not Bubble GUM color which means it’s got a lot of red dye in it. It all comes pre mixed now. He had to file my upper molars down to the fillings, only the right side were to long, and are still to long. Result you can’t floss your upper teeth as they are now melded together at the bottoms. The Left side didn’t need to be touched, just the Right he did both, and they are not even smooth. It would do no good to get them remade if they can’t provide a product for Autoimmune patients.
No one knows where to send a Autoimmune patient for dental work. Implants were not feasible, my jaw is to small. Upper teeth are painful and bowed inward same reason receding gums from medications. 10 months of Hell.
The article mentions some drive up to 1000 miles to “Molar City’. My group healthcare Medicare advantage plan offers an add-on dental plan for about $200 a year. Driving 1000 miles with a one-night motel stop cost way more than that price. Get a dental plan and go to your local dentist instead.
Back in 2012 :
CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) Noel Shankle couldnt afford a dentist in the states, so he left his home in Carrollton and headed to Mexico to have two root canals and some cavities filled. That was a week ago and his family hasnt heard from him since. He told me, mom, Ill be back Sunday, recalled Noels mother, Nelly Shankle.
Nelly says her son was headed to Matamoros to find a cheaper dentist. The 28-year-old flew to the border and rented a car. The last known place he was at was in Harlingen, explained Nelly.
From what I could dig up, he's never been found.....
That’s terrible. Sorry to hear this:(I just walked into our local dental school, which has a public clinic & implant center & there was no criteria to conform to.
Thank You for posting this TSR, I was refered by my neighbor to give this a try.
I’ve used this dentist over 20 yrs, he’s a Army Reserve Lt COL retired. So we’ve dealt with his trips to Iraq and Afghanistan. He knows it takes double the numbing agent and a longer wait time for me. But procedures have been small fillings, crowns, root canal. Nothing as big as this procedure. I can’t help I have health issues, you are supposed to keep up with the field so you can offer your patients the best care. He knows about OP jaw Degeneration, but not Autoimmune’s. The dental field has changed and he hadn’t.
