Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended migrants from at least 30 different nations since the beginning of October. Sector officials report significant variations in the demographic nationalities of migrants being apprehended this fiscal year.

“The apprehension of migrants from countries such as Brazil, Haiti, China, and countries of Africa have increased significantly this fiscal year,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz said in a written statement. “We continue to work with our law enforcement partners to combat threats in an effort to protect our country and the community.”

Sector officials report the apprehension of migrants from at least 30 separate nations other than Mexico during the first two months of Fiscal Year 2020 (which began on October 1). This is up from 15 nations during the same period in FY2019.

Chinese nationals represent the largest migrant group currently being apprehended outside of Mexican and Central American migrants..

The question arises...how did they get into Mexico to approach our border? Is Mexico issuing transient visas to enable them, or simply ignoring their presence as long as they keep moving north?

Finish the damned WALL, then they’re Mexico’s problem!

30 nations. That’s pretty eye opening in so far that it proves our southern border is considered a weak point by those trying to sneak in.

If the USA is as bad as Democrats say, why, are so many people trying to come here?

I can imagine. Some of the anti-American stuff you see on You Tube would make your blood boil.

Major highways lead from Mexico's interior, then spread laterally along the Rio Grande River. This provides relatively easy access to cross the Rio Grande River at multiple locations with movement masked by the rough terrain and tall vegetation. Moving northward through the Del Rio Sector, the terrain is more level with grain fields and open pasture. Railroads cross east to west and north to south with one crossing at the border in Eagle Pass, Texas.

The flow of aliens across the Rio Grande River through the Sector to the north and east provides a challenge to the Border Patrol agents assigned to the area. Illegal alien traffic occurs primarily along the river with most, if not all aliens destined for the interior. The absence of man-made barricades to control the points of entry gives illegal entrants, and smugglers of aliens and narcotics the latitude of crossing virtually any place along the 210 miles of border with Mexico.

Few aliens remain in the Sector area. Local farmers and ranchers do not usually hire aliens to fill the relatively few jobs available in the area. Typically, aliens are in transit to San Antonio or Houston, where construction jobs are abundant and transportation can be arranged from those cities to other cities in the United States.

There was a rumor going around that Soros and his goons are financing some of these people. There was an article here on FR about it some time back. Talked about folks passing out $100 bills to the border jumpers like candy.

IMHO, Soros needs to be shut down. He’s a menace to our country.

But they have to pass through Mexico to reach our border...that's what I'm addressing.

Yep this all goes back to 60s when JFK was allowed to steal the election and then we got the great society civil rights act and immigration act

The height of and the beginning of the decline of America and it’s great culture

Our parents and grandparents are turning in their graves as they see what they wrought and how dysfunctional each succeeding generation has become

Duck, it does a body good (especially in places where duck is not on the menu). Remember, down here in Texas we react differently to cultural diversity. Don't believe me, then go to any Chinese all you can eat and most of the customers are Latino. I'll be waitin' for Mickey D's to introduce the McDuck sammich and the Colonel to introduce KFC fried duck in the near future.

In the meantime, let the liberal politicians ponder why did the duck cross the road and finish the DAMN wall. Excuse me while I go to the kitchen and figure out how make a decent duck taco or enchilada (unlike my failed fish taco that I had to recycle back into the Gulf of Mexico).

In percentage terms, the Del Rio Sector of the border has seen the biggest increase in illegal traffic this year - some of the traffic being blocked in the traditional routes is diverting through there. It used to be relatively quiet.

Also, as the size of the potential market for the cartels from smuggling Central American “family units” plummets due to Trump Administration policy changes, the cartels are expanding their search for new customers, to the rest of the world.

The three biggest corridors traditionally, have been the Rio Grande Valley Sector, San Diego and Yuma - which together accounted for the bulk of illegal crossings last year. All three of those corridors have been funded for game-changing barrier infrastructure. San Diego is nearing completion, Yuma is well underway, with multiple crews at work, and the Rio Grande Valley Sector is just starting construction, but scheduled to substantially complete by the end of next year.

Most of the border along the Rio Grande River, heading up stream from the Gulf of Mexico to Falcon Lake (about 150 miles) already has Bush-era barrier, or is funded and contracted for Trump-style barrier. So that heavy illegal traffic is likely to increasingly divert further upriver, around the North side of Falcon Lake, between it and Box Canyon/Amistad Reservoir. That is about a 250 mile gap, almost all without any existing barrier, comprising the Laredo and Del Rio Sectors of the border.

52 miles of that gap (running North from the Laredo Colombia Port of Entry) has already been designated for contracting out of this year’s Military Construction funding, under the President’s emergency declaration, but contracts have not yet been awarded with that money (likely waiting for the Ninth Circuit’s ruling, which is expected soon).

There is a lot of activity contacting landowners in the Laredo Sector between that 52 mile run of barrier, down South through the city to Falcon Lake (about 60 miles). All indications are that the 2020 appropriations will fund that stretch, but nothing officially confirms that (probably because the appropriation hasn’t happened yet).

That will leave another 100-150 miles in the Del Rio Sector, that will really need barrier to effectively control, because the terrain makes it suitable as an alternate route for diverted illegal traffic (and we are already seeing it). I expect that the Trump Administration will be resourceful in FY 2020 in finding additional funds, like they were this year, and that those miles in the Del Rio Sector will be near the top of the priority list for those extra miles in 2020.
