Schiff’s Snooping Standard: He says he can gather and release private metadata because only ‘the far right’ objects.
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 8, 2019

Kudos to Margaret Brennan of CBS for asking Adam Schiff on Sunday about his release of phone logs of his political opponents. Mr. Schiff dismissed any criticism, and his reason is revealing about the balance of power in Washington.

“The blowback has only come from the far right,” Mr. Schiff said. “But look, every investigator seeks phone records to corroborate, sometimes to contradict, a witness’s testimony.”

Yes, but executive-branch investigators who want to get data from private telecom companies typically must obtain some kind of judicial order. Mr. Schiff did it himself. Prosecutors are also supposed to limit the release of data on innocent bystanders like journalists for privacy reasons. The intelligence term of art is “minimization.” Mr. Schiff released the phone logs of journalist John Solomon and Rep. Devin Nunes —information irrelevant to his impeachment case against President Trump. The narrative of his report suggests he did it gratuitously to imply that Mr. Nunes is part of the Ukraine conspiracy, though the Republican has a right to call anyone he wants.

Maybe they’re guilty of abusing their power as well.

THIS is what the nation becomes when the president refuses, not just fails, but REFUSES to enforce the law.

Sadly, he’s correct.

A liberal friend once told me many years ago, that the difference between he and I, was that he didn’t expect Democrats to be honest.

Go figure.

If the SDNY did do this they are in some deep shiite. As is Schiff as well as AT&T for coughing up the data.

For a subpoena, there has to be merit to the need for the request. There is NONE here. Aside from Nunes’ lawsuit there may very well be other answers back to Schiff, from federal investigators. This is actually Grand Jury territory.

This reminds me of those old westerns where the gang takes over the town, and only the law-abiding locals object.

Top Senator went on a Sunday show today and said the Senate isn’t going to call Schiff, not going to call anyone named Biden, and has no interest in the Whistleblower.

The GOP only had obligations to Democrats and the Media.

They want to be “fair” to those two groups.

I believe we all predicted this when the Patriot Act was passed.

Patriot Act was misnamed, as is all laws passed in DC. It should be known as the "Facism Act".

There is no grave if he is able to keep both feet out of it. He will keep getting re-elected and since HoR has not done anything about it, there is no grave dug. Its like digging a hole and the only thing getting bigger is the hole and nothing to fill it in with. Until Schifty goes down for this, then I have no faith in our duly elected government and those they appoint to do the bidding of the people, for the people. So sick of a multi-tiered justice system and government who are nothing more than reprobates on both sides of the aisle. Shifty isn’t the only one who needs to go down. The whole damn lot of them needs to go down and the whole thing needs to be done over.

MENSHEVIKS vs BOLSHEVIKS

FOR THE Jewish revolutionaries, the years from 1904 to the revolution were spent in a fever of activity. In 1904, a dispute at the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party between Julius Martov and Lenin led to the creation of Lenin’s Bolsheviks and Martov’s Mensheviks.

Thanks for letting us know, Lindsey. WTF good are you, other than confirming judges.

Lindsey Graham is neither Trump’s attorney who decides what witnesses to offer for the defense, which may be Rudy or someone else.Nor is he the judge, who will rule on evidentiary questions. That will be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. All he’s supposed to do is keep order as Senate Majority Leader. Go confirm a judge, Lindsey. You are good for something.

They think they above the law that they impose on us.

Not quite. They subject government employees to onerous ethical standards and are quite strict about preventing us from the illegal/unethical activities that they routinely engage in. I am more than a little cynical when I have to file an annual financial disclosure, and I reflect on the fact that most of those who imposed the financial disclosure requirement are enriching themselves greatly through shady dealings associated with their political offices.
