The House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday night began the "markup" process for the two articles of impeachment against President Trump that they have settled on, barreling toward a final floor vote even as moderate Democrats have floated the idea of backing down in favor of a censure resolution.
Almost immediately, the evening proceedings broke out into fiery disagreement, as the panel's top Democrat declared that it would be unsafe to wait until the 2020 election to remove Trump, while the ranking Republican slammed Democrats for attacking Ukraine's leader because he undercut their case against Trump.
"We cannot rely on an election to solve our problems, when the president threatens the very integrity of that election," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said in his opening statement, claiming that Trump's discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about Joe and Hunter Biden's lucrative dealings in the country, and the White House's temporary withholding of military aid to Ukraine, constituted an "urgent" threat to national security.
"This committee now owes it to the American people to give these articles careful attention," Nadler said at the beginning o the markup for the impeachment articles, which include obstruction of Congress and abuse of power.
Nadler said there were three key questions for Congress to evaluate: Whether the evidence clearly shows that Trump committed the acts alleged in his dealings with Ukraine, whether the acts rise to the impeachment standard of "high crimes and misdemeanors," and what are the consequences for national security if Congress fails to act.
The top Republican on the panel, Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., shot back that Democrats have been trying to impeach Trump since he took office. He echoed the White House's argument that the impeachment was politically motivated theater, long in the works and foreshadowed openly by Democrats...

And only a fool would contend there’s anything, or any event, in Ukraine that is even obliquely related to US National Security.
Of course the US House can impeach for any reason they damn well please.

They don’t care jack sh@t about us. Everything is always about money. Our democrat heroes are corrupt to the core, Trump is a threat to their free tax payer money spigot, and secondarily a threat to exposing their corruption. The supreme court and judges are also a threat to their nepotism and corruption and thus their money fountain.
Every single thing is always about money, every time.
If they managed to get rid of Trump as POTUS, the very next day they would start in on Mike Pence.
I would like to think they Washington would have way to much to deal with to even think about Pence for some time if they were to ever remove Trump.
I believe you’re right and I pray for his safety as we all should.
I wouldn’t put that past the followers of some of the nutcase leadership in the Democrat party now.
In this, Nadler gives up what the impeachment farce is all about. It is meant to demean Trump so voters will not vote for him. It will not work!
So that is supposed to be okay with the American people? They let that go?
Nadler has no respect for the Constitution or the law or the voters in a fair election.
He is after us.
This is what they think of us and this is their agenda for this country.
They don’t care about us. They just want power.
