I keep thinking of Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. Jim Hacker was led around by the nose by the permanent bureaucracy.
Politicians always screw it up.

Like I mentioned earlier, May’s numbers began a downward trend at about 25 days or so before the vote and never really recovered. Johnson’s numbers basically stayed an eight to ten point margin in that steady and consistent way for most of the campaign. May really was that sort of disappointment to many and it was quite evident after a while.

On election night in 2016 I was on FR here in the 7-8 hour and there were posters saying it was all over for Trump and that H had won Florida from what they were seeing and thus the election was over too. The lead was switching back and forth admittedly. I at that point quit and went and watched a John Wayne movie because the last thing I wanted to watch was a cackling Hillary. I went to bed after the movie and eventually woke up around 3 and feeling a need to know for sure what happened caught Trump’s acceptance speech. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
