Not to be like Mitt Romney, but to sound like Mitt Romney, because there is no point in impressing all over again the people who are already impressed, who will always be there to support him. He needs to add more voters to be safe for his re-election. The ones he can now add are not going to respond to the legacy Donald Trump, or he wouldn’t have to add them.

Coca Cola doesn’t advertise by saying, “you already know what Coke tastes like.” They advertise by saying, “maybe you didn’t think you would like Coke, here’s why you would.”

Over the years, they have gotten dumber and dumber. The web is our greatest source of what is going on. The TV is just a standby these days. So if I want 5 minute Current events update...I turn on the news. Otherwise I’m searching the web.

The good news was her most recent coughing fit during an interview....which is supposed to be summer allergies.

And why give his opponent the exposure?

You don't think his opponent isn't already going to have exposure out the wazoo? The reason is that Trump does not do well in a debate format, even the phony baloney debates we hold for presidential campaigns. He has nothing to gain from being on stage with his opponent and more to lose by appearing than by blowing them off. But he will need to have a coherent and believable reason for why he is the first candidate since 1976 to refuse to participate.

It’s obvious the author is trying to make it look like the President is afraid to debate....has anyone here noticed any fear in him?

Maybe it should be a rule that the incumbent gets to choose the debate venue and the moderators.

Should should lay down terms.

1. The debates may be shown on TV and ought to be shown on TV but no news organization hosts any of the debates.

2. No one from the media is allowed to be the person asking the candidates any questions.

3. The choice of who will ask questions to the candidates is a choice consented to by both parties.

he could produce his own events and invite reporters with diverse views to pose questions.....

Excellent idea. Would outdraw the Dem candidates attempt at the same thing...

According to the sources, Trump doesn't trust the Commission on Presidential Debates

GREAT Idea, honesty is the best policy and the corrupt media should not be rewarded. I did this locally one year and boycotted the League of (all Democrat) Women voters debates and got huge media. Trump should do a Q&A on FOX and allow the people to ask sensible real questions, don't accept anything like "How will you save the world environment from ending the world in 12 years"?

“Not to be like Mitt Romney, but to sound like Mitt Romney”

Even better! A FAKE Mitt Romney! After all, it’s pretty much what all of Trump’s supporters want him to do, and no doubt they just can’t wait to hear Donald Trump sound like a fake Mitt Romney!

Everyone will be even more enthusiast about President Trump than they are now, because a fake Mitt Romney is EXACTLY what our country needs right now to counter the insane Democrats and the 24x7x365 lies and propaganda from the dying lying leftist Democrat fake stream enemedia

BTW, what would a fake Mitt Romney have to say about being impeached by a sham impeachment? Could you maybe give me a a couple of sample quotes about how that might sound?

I was only referring to tone here, not content. I don’t want Trump to change his point of view at all, but some change to his presentation or tone might attract more voters.

It seems self-evident to me that there is no point in firing up the base, they are already very motivated to turn out and vote. It is new voters that would help combined with more attention to voter fraud issues.

Romney has a calm demeanour and whether you agree with him or not, he communicates effectively to a different group of voters than the president. I wish Mitt Romney would shift his own priorities, come more in line with Trump, and become a useful person in political life. I think he’s a good man with bad ideas, not the only one by any means.

Hey, how’s this for a Mitt Romney “tone” (from transcript of Mitt Romney’s speech on Donald Trump March 3, 2016:

“Of course, a Trump nomination enables her victory. And the audio and video of the infamous Tapper-Trump exchange on the Ku Klux Klan will play 100,000 times on cable and who knows how many million times on social media. There are a number of people who claim that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake — thank you.

Let me say that again. There’s plenty of evidence that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake. Mr. Trump has changed his positions not just over the years, but over the course of the campaign. And on the Ku Klux Klan, daily for three days in a row.

We will only really know if he’s a real deal or a phony if he releases his tax returns and the tape of his interview with The New York Times. I predict that there are more bombshells in his tax returns. I predict that he doesn’t give much, if anything, to the disabled and to our veterans. I predict that he told The New York Times that his immigration talk is just that — talk.

And I predict that despite his promise to do so, first made over a year ago, that he will never ever release his tax returns. Never — not the returns under audit; not even the returns that are no longer being audited. He has too much to hide. Nor will he authorize the release of the tapes that he made with The New York Times.

If I’m right, you’ll have all the proof you need to know that Donald Trump is indeed a phony. Attacking me as he surely will won’t prove him any less of a phony. It’s entirely in his hands to prove me wrong. All he has to do is release his back taxes like he promised he would and let us hear what he said behind closed doors to The New York Times.

...

Mr. Trump is directing our anger for less than noble purposes. He creates scapegoats of Muslims and Mexican immigrants. He calls for the use of torture. He calls for killing the innocent children and family members of terrorists. He cheers assaults on protesters. He applauds the prospect of twisting the Constitution to limit First Amendment freedom of the press.

This is the very brand of anger that has led other nations into the abyss.

Here’s what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.

He’s playing the members of the American public for suckers. He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.

His domestic policies would lead to recession. His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe. He has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president and his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill.”

THAT’S the ticket! THAT’S the Mitt Romney “tone” that Trump needs to take!
