Mitch McConnell threatens to CANCEL Donald Trump's Senate trial if 'scared' Nancy Pelosi does not hand over 'slapdash' articles of impeachment - as Speaker slams him as a 'ROGUE leader' and president gloats he will be cleared by 'default'

Mitch McConnell on Thursday threatened to cancel Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate if 'scared' Nancy Pelosi doesn't send over the formal articles of impeachment against the president.

The speaker and the Senate Republican leader went to war over the next steps in the impeachment process as Pelosi slammed McConnell as a 'rogue leader' - and he blasted her articles as 'slapdash' and 'unfair.'

The dispute exploded into the open the morning after Democrats voted to impeach Trump, with the president bragging he was going to win the whole thing by 'default.'

'If the Do Nothing Democrats decide, in their great wisdom, not to show up, they would lose by Default!,' Trump argued on Twitter of his upcoming Senate trial, which is now in doubt.

Pelosi has to 'transmit' the articles of impeachment and appoint 'managers' to prosecute the president - but offered no timeline on when she would do that, saying she wanted to see the Senate's plan for a 'fair trial,' effectively holding the articles over McConnell and Trump's heads.

McConnell, who previously said he wanted to hold the trial in January, responded: 'It's beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic Leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage.

'Frankly, I'm not anxious to have the trial. If she thinks her case is so weak she doesn't want to send it over, throw me into that briar patch.'

Turtle seems to be learning to stand tall from Trump.
He learned how to hide under Bush.

Mitch is normally a very discrete individual, says little about nothing.

So at first, I was angry that Mitch aggressively announced he would conduct the Senate trial as a political issue,
that he himself was definitely not partisan, and that Trump would never be removed from office.

Now I’m thinking that wasnt a bad idea....b/c Nanzi went ballistic, showed her hand, and is boxed into a corner whether she knows it or not.

As a masterful policy wonk, I’m sure Mitch has many moves in store for the recalcitrant Nanzi.

he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper

Have the Senate vote to adjourn, the House will disagree, and Trump can adjourn Congress until December 31, 2020.

Oh, I thought that it was an emergency to get Trump out of office, so that he couldn’t rig the next election. That’s what Nanzi was saying all of last week.

Evidently, it is not such an emergency.

Oh, and Epstein did not kill himself.

I don’t believe President Trump is impeached until the House completes the process. The process includes transmission of the articles to the Senate. McConnell should put a very short deadline on that and refuse to accept delivery if they miss the deadline. The Baal worshiping Pelosi can eat fresh, steaming San Francisco sidewalk sausage and die for all I care.

Adjournment is not recess. If the Senate adjourns, it does so for the remainder of its legal term of office. It cannot be called back into session unless the president calls a special session of Congress. However, adjournment of the Senate requires a unanimous resolution. (”Without objection, it is so ordered.”) That will never happen.

Impeachment is now the harness with which congress will restrain Trump. It’s out there, if Trump does not toe the line they will pull the trigger.

I don't agree. He hasn't been the least bit restrained so far; I doubt he would suddenly go squishy just because Pelosi withholds the articles.

Let’s not forget Americans have a dog in this hunt.

WHAT IF? Trump plays the Gingrich card and Natonalizes impeachment?

What if Trump asks Americans “What’s this all about? Do you know? Does your Congressman know?”

Americans would respond in droves.

Nancy is quite insane, Mitch. That's why she thinks she has leverage.

It is akin to telling a death-row inmate, "If you don't select the last supper I want you to, I will refuse to execute you."

As much as I despise Romney, he’s at least consistently self-interested. If he wants to retire in a few years with any kind of a positive legacy, he simply cannot vote for impeachment. That he’ll NEVER be President is evident - he had his chance, he had Obama on the ropes after the first debate, and he blew it. Now he is 72, and he’ll be as old as Biden in 2024 (and likely running against at least a sitting VP, and a lot of younger governors with great records). Nope, he’ll never be POTUS - so all that he has left is his legacy...and I don’t think that he’ll blow it, he has too much of an ego.

This thread is not about a criminal trial so the 6th doesn’t apply.

I don’t recall the Senate telling the House how to conduct their Kangaroo court.

Where do these people, led by who once was an attractive to one of the ugliest women, get their hubris.

If this isn’t hubris, it must be insanity.

Right, Nance, tell the Senate how to handle their work.

Did the do-nothing Dems spend all this time and effort on a farcical “impeachment” just to leave it hanging in limbo?

They screwed up bigtime by confronting Yertle.

He isn’t as publicity-conscious as Botoxic, but he absolutely runs the Senate.

I have traced four or five of his promises that got done, and interestingly he did NOT promise to pass Obamacare repeal-—he only promised to bring it up for a vote (which he did).
