The National Rifle Association, after shedding its president and top lobbyist this year amid a string of internal disputes and legal battles, finds itself at a 2020 crossroads with Republican politicos wondering if the group is still high powered or a campaign dud.
The cloud of doubts over the NRA is a stunning development just four years after the gun group was instrumental in helping elect President Trump.
The NRA says it plans to play a pivotal role — as always — in next year’s elections, especially because gun-rights advocates are rallying against the gun control platforms of the 2020 Democratic presidential contenders.
It’s an open question, however, whether Mr. Trump and like-minded political candidates can expect to see the same level of financial and organizational support amid the group’s troubles.
“Perhaps really for the first time in modern history, I think it’s hurt with gun owners questioning why NRA does what it’s doing,” said Richard Feldman, a former NRA lobbyist who challenged the group’s leadership structure in recent years.
The NRA’s most pressing fight is with New York Attorney General Letitia James, whose office recently issued a wide-ranging subpoena as it investigates the group’s coveted nonprofit status.

They were silent when trump banned bumpstocks. Gun owners of America stood firm on principle.
There are better run organizations addressing the same issues. Some where along the way the NRA became a lower tier performer.
How many months of record gun sales will VA tally this year? That’s a good barometer of how thep anti-gun movement is doing.
NRA showed up way late to the VA gun control fight and only half-assed it.
It looks suspiciously like the NRA is becoming an enrichment vehicle for Wayne LaPierre and friends and people aren’t happy about that.
Hmmm. I wonder if the NRA will lose influence in light of what Gov. Blackface is about to pull?
I doubt it. As a matter of fact, I think the opposite will prove true. While the NRA may be having its problems, it’s core function remains the same.
Gun owners are the strength of the NRA. It’s not some Astro-turf organization drumming fictional support for an unpopular position. It’s a reflection of the reality of the belief in the right to self-defense.
I’m sure all organizations wish they had the same members. Talk is cheap.

I was at a gun show in Longmont, Co. today and
I couldn’t believe how full the parking lot was. The background check station was backed up. The Colorado Cat Lady Legislature is sure spurring gun sales. As I walked out the door an old man with a U.S. Navy cap on looked at me and said “where’s my car?”.

Pfffft! Oh please. How about that WWII armory in a mine shaft in the Rockies that was covered up? Must be 10,000 M1’s, 1000 BAR’s and all kinds of ammo and explosives. I’ll never tell. Look to your Topo maps for anomolies around Nederland, Co.

Trump has appointed 185 judges to lifetime positions. We are winning bigly and need to continue this for the next five years.
