Barr Asks Apple to Unlock Pensacola Killer’s Phones, Setting Up Clash
The New York Times ^ | 13 Jan 2020 | Katie Benner

Attorney General William P. Barr declared on Monday that a deadly shooting last month at a naval air station in Pensacola, Fla., was an act of terrorism, and he asked Apple in an unusually high-profile request to provide access to two phones used by the gunman.

Mr. Barr’s appeal was an escalation of a continuing fight between the Justice Department and Apple pitting personal privacy against public safety.

“This situation perfectly illustrates why it is critical that the public be able to get access to digital evidence,” Mr. Barr said, calling on technology companies to find a solution and complaining that Apple had provided no “substantive assistance.”

"He stressed that investigators found no connection to the shooting among the cadets, but said that some had links to extremist movements or possessed child pornography. Mr. Barr said the cases were too weak to prosecute but that Saudi Arabia kicked the trainees out of the program."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯

'Justice Department officials said that they needed access to Mr. Alshamrani’s phones to see data and messages from encrypted apps like Signal or WhatsApp to determine whether he had discussed his plans with others at the base and whether he was acting alone or with help.'

They say we have an “NSA” that hoovers up every digital text, phone call, and email. It should be easy to get all the info he needs.

Screw deep state swamper Barr trying to continue the government war on Apple security. A backdoor for government is a backdoor for anyone.

Meanwhile, he has not brought in a single arrest, indictment or case in the outrageous coup attempt.

Apple makes more money by not providing assistance.

Profit rules!
(If the media supports the company.)

“needed access to Mr. Alshamrani’s phones to see data and messages from encrypted apps like Signal or WhatsApp to determine whether he had discussed his plans “

WhatApp is a Facebook product. All he needs is a search warrant and Facebook will produce all of that. Ball knows this.

This is just another “never let a crisis go to waste” government attack on apple privacy. They couldn;t care less about security or they wouldn’t have let a dozen terrorists into Navy flight school. What they want is the end of apple security and to read every iphone in America at will.

Barr is a joke.

How do you suggest apple unlock the phone? Tell us in detail please how you think the phone can be unlocked by apple.

At best, I have mixed thoughts on this.

I don’t want government to be able to throw out BS suspicions and get access directly from the provider.

And I don’t want Islamonazis to get a free ride.

So I say GET A WARRANT, and if you get it, use the full force of the Federal government to compel the provider to break the code or spend the rest of their lives in prison.

Let me get this straight ...

The U.S. government invited a bunch of foreign nationals from a country that is known for its radical Islam to train here in the U.S. on an ‘effing military base, and yet somehow Apple is supposed to feel obligated to help that same government after one of the Islamic mutants went on a shooting rampage?

LMAO.

Imagine arguing against privacy because you have to support bagpiping Barr.

I take a differing view...

The Fifth Amendment protects against self-incrimination, which in turn protects the privacy of personal information.

If someone makes a call, it travels over mobile towers or the internet. It is fair game with a warrant.

Apple offers a product that they do not hold the ability to “unlock” because the user alone knows how to unlock it.

But if I had to choose between the Islamonazis getting a free ride, or the DOJ + everyone connected to them getting a free ride, the Islamonazis win every time.

Imagine arguing against the Common Law principles that our Founders thought so important...

Well, it’s easy if Apple, ot another ‘tech’ company, pays you!
Doing it for free is just stupid however.

“Apple offers a product that they do not hold the ability to “unlock” because the user alone knows how to unlock it.”

BS

Not only does Apple have the ability, so does NSA. And anyone else with supercompute capability.

His call records are fully available from his carrier. His WhatsApp is fully available from Facebook. Everything he ever sent and every person he called was captured by the NSA.

Barr is just trying to attack apple privacy.

Funny how he hasn’t gotten around to Hillary, Comey, Rosenstein, McCabe, Steele, etc. Whatsamatta? He don’t need into their Iphones? LOL

Well, he’s not asking for a backdoor access into everyone’s phone. He is asking Apple to assist in a murder investigation and unlock information on one person’s phone.

There were arrests of some of people who were buds of Epstein. That said I agree that we want some arrests of alphabet people.

Weird, they already sent the pilots back. Now, they need apple to unlock the phone to see if there was any terrorist connections, even though they have already cleared the shooter of having any connections.

I argue against gov’t overreach, for free, also kind of important to the Founders.

Say NO to phone access!

It is more reasonable to just dust every one of the ragheads... There is no such thing as an “innocent” moslem...IMHO...
