New Mexico GOP trying to court Latino, Native American voters
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | January 13, 2020 | Russell Contreras

Posted on 01/14/2020 12:41:04 PM PST by CedarDave

New Mexico Republicans will embark on an aggressive strategy to win over Hispanic and Native American voters in 2020 as the party experiences its most diverse primary races in recent history, state chairman Steve Pearce announced.

Pearce said the state party will appoint Hispanic and Native American outreach coordinators in all of the state’s 33 counties. He is also urging all candidates to travel to Democratic strongholds instead of just focusing on the GOP’s traditional base.

“I am excited about minority candidates saying more broadly for the first time, ‘I am Republican, and I’m going to run as a Republican,'” Pearce said. “That is pretty powerful.”

Native Americans and Latinos are running in two GOP primaries for U.S. House seats and for the U.S. Senate seat in New Mexico.

“This is something that is energizing to me because Republicans really have not done a good job at reaching into Hispanic communities,” Pearce said.

Native Americans? Better send Fauxcahauntas down there.

Latinos are SOL since Castro and Beto dropped out.

Go to any street fair this spring, summer, and fall.

You'll find a 'Register To Vote' stand run by a 'non-partisan' group (wink wink).

They pass out registration forms like condoms in public high schools.

You could probably get some fascinating audio and video if you hang around these booths for awhile.

Maybe Project Veritas could consider volunteering at such events.

minority outreach is nice, but not at the expense of trying to maximize white turnout.

stopping all immigration, finishing the wall is key.... this will resonate with all the legal immigrants and blacks.

Poverty on NM Indian reservations is crushing.

Dems have not done squat to fix that.
Worth a shot.

I live in Ruidoso. I know Dr. Clarkson.

Dr. Clarkson is hardly a drunk Indian.

Dr. Clarkson earned his MBA from Rice University and his Doctorate in Technology and Operations Management from the Harvard Business School. Dr. Clarkson is also the only doctoral graduate in the history of the Harvard Business School who has placed in a livestock show.

While in Boston, he also chaired the board of a pro-life crisis pregnancy center and graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School where he was the managing editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology and served as president of the Native American Law Students Association. Dr. Clarkson has held various university positions in Business, Law, Computer Science, and Information Systems since 1991 and has also taught at the 5th, 8th, and 12th grade levels.

Named the nation’s “leading scholar in tribal finance” by The Financial Times, Dr. Clarkson has been cited by Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today on matters of tribal finance, and rural economic development, subjects he has taught as a professor at the University of Michigan, University of Houston, University of Montana, and New Mexico State University. Dr. Clarkson has also taught courses on corporate law, entrepreneurship, and computer science and information systems.

Most recently, Dr. Clarkson served in the Department of the Interior as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Policy and Economic Development – Indian Affairs. In that position, he managed the Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development and the Office of Self-Governance.

Dr. Clarkson is a member of the Federalist Society, the Southwest Coalition for Life, and is a lifetime member of both the National Rifle Association and the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. He has one son, is a member of First Baptist Church of Las Cruces, and is a former national Country Western Dance champion. He is perhaps best known, however, for being forced to prove New Mexico’s statehood while applying for a marriage license in Washington, D.C. Now he is running to put New Mexico back on the map.

Why is this even news? Are not Dems courting anyone and everyone they can for votes? Is this story being used to alert the Dems, so they can re-double their own efforts?

“It’s anybody’s quess what will make Hispanics Republicans.”

same thing that makes everyone else who votes for populists like Trump: good paying jobs, educational opportunity for children, safe neighborhoods and cities, border security to prevent unlimited numbers of ignorant peasants from flooding the U.S. with cheap labor, respect for family values, respect for religion, etc., etc.

“Why is this even news?”

it’s news because the GOPe/RINO party hasn’t historically done this, whereas President Trump has fostered the notion of expanding the base because he believes that everyone benefits from his policies ...

“Is this story being used to alert the Dems, so they can re-double their own efforts?”

could be ...

i thought whites are the minority..

True. In New Mexico whites (non-Hispanic) are at about 40 percent. But, of course because whites are so racist, Hispanic and Native Americans could be at 95% and they would still be the "minority." /s

Karen Bedonie is a Native American running for the third congressional district. She is very outspoken and very conservative. I’m in first district, or I would vote for her.

She’s a gun-toting Mama, too, and teaches her kids to shoot.

I see many on this thread have no clue about New Mexico.

It doesn’t work. Republicans try minority candidates, but most minorities still vote Democrat. They want the “free” stuff, even though one would think Indians would know better than to trust government to take care of them.

Why do you think Democrats want illegals from Mexico and S. America? Because they see how they vote for the promise of “free” stuff over and over again, no matter how awful the results.
