Collins ranks as least-popular senator in new poll
Portland Press-Hearad ^ | January 17, 2020 | BY RACHEL OHM

A new poll ranks U.S. Sen. Susan Collins as the least popular senator.

The poll, released Thursday by the Morning Consult, found a 42 percent approval rate for Collins and 52 percent disapproval rate among Maine voters surveyed.

The fourth quarter ranking represents a 10 percent drop in Collins’ net approval rating.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R – KY, ranked as the second least popular senator with 50 percent of Kentucky voters disapproving of his performance.

The rankings are based on a survey given to 494,899 registered voters nationwide between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. Participants could answer whether they strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, strongly disapprove, or don’t know/ have no opinion on their U.S. senator.

Collins is up for re-election and faces what is expected to be the most expensive campaign of her career. She has recently come under scrutiny for her vote to support Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and has faced pressure from both sides as President Trump’s impeachment trial unfolds.

Curiously timed release of this "poll".

IMO, she has the same issue W. Bush had. The left hate anyone not of their Party. The right hates her because she votes liberal. She is an island.

Why is it always assumed, if true, that it is because she voted more conservative? Maybe it’s because she’s a wish-washy moderate and Republicans want a fighter like Pres Trump.

Polls of “registered voters” are notoriously unreliable and only used to push political agendas.

As Election Day nears, there will be polling of “likely voters” which are worth paying attention to.

The Left hates her because she's a registered Republican.

The Right hates her because she's a registered Republican.

If she was a demoncRat, we would expect her to sell out the nation.

There are a lot of dead registered voters in this nation.

Wonder how the poll is going just including them.

Well said.

If she keeps going in her direction, she will become as popular as Jeff Flake.

Her best bet is to embrace the Trump movement and get onboard.

People, people, people....the timing of this story isn’t by accident. Weak people like Collins take nonsense like this poll seriously, so what can she do to ingratiate herself to the whore media? Why vote against anything Trump, of course, and with her the ploy will work.

What is the solution, everyone?

RINOs are piles of dog cr#p (need I mention Mittens?).
They are selfish, and disloyal. Really important because Dems
vote in a rigid bloc together 99.99% of the time.

Reporter: “Mr.Dem Congressman, how do you stand on this bill?”

Dem: “Uh, I’m waiting for my call to be returned by Speaker Pelosi to find out.”

So do we miraculously get a primary challenger who is also good looking and a vote getter? Or do we allow an actual Dem to replace Romney ,Murkowski, S. Collins and others?

Best is to have such a large majority that a little caucus group will be marginally important. Like the Dems do using black people and telling them to sit down and shut up unless needed for a diversity photo op or to get out the ghetto urban vote next election.

People who talk out of both sides of their mouth like Collins, McCain, Romney, Lee, Murkowski, etc. will always be vilified by both sides in public even if they are praised by the other side they play for in private.

While it appears to be a good thing when someone defects from the dem party by switching to the pubbie party; can they ever truly be trusted? That works both ways.

Maine is a rather liberal state. It has become Massachusetts North. Once she is gone I suspect they are never going to elect another Republican Senator again.

All the 17th. Amendment managed to do was to place this country under the near-total control of our 100 biggest egomaniacs.

Maine is not that far gone. It elected a Conservative Republican Governor from 2011-19, and the rural 2nd district voted for Trump. He should do even better this year. Collins by being on the far-left of the GOP does herself no favors. The Demonrat left won’t support her, so she should actually vote how the GOP base wants.

She is almost singlehandedly responsible for Kavanaugh getting confirmed. She ought to be supported.

Collins tries to triangulate, but in the end nobody is happy with her.

Try to please everyone, and you just piss everybody off.

If the Republicans have to lose a Republican senator, Collins is the one to lose.
