Found this on a sports board. Looks like a keeper that updates frequently for those who follow such things.

Coronavirus is a double-edged threat that can bring down the Trump administration and forfeit any Republican control of Congress if the president does not get in front of this potential plague.

One sharp edge of the threat: massive deaths as the system is first overwhelmed then disintegrates. Steve Bannon now reads reports that the actual death rate is 15%. If this is even remotely true we are looking at a calamity of Spanish flu proportions, given the RO that this virus has achieved in Wuhan.

The second sharp edge: the end of the Trump Economic Era and the creation of a crisis which, once again, the left will not let go to waste. Expect the stock market, which anticipates at least six months in advance, to crash as and when the world's second largest economy appears to be shutting down and in anticipation of a coming recession. Expect our automobile industry to shut down as automakers in Korea already have reportedly done. I have read that the Chinese have ceased importing copper, without which no industrial economy proceeds. One of the foundational pillars of Trump's claim to reelection is the economy.

I believe the president has made a mistake in reporting favorably on his phone call with Pres. Su of China. I believe Homeland Security is not sufficiently reactive to be able to avoid Democrat's slogan that coronavirus was Trump's Hurricane Katrina.

Far better to overreact and look somewhat foolish as the threat is contained than to underreact and explain to grieving mothers and out of work fathers why he did not do more.

Well, the economic consequences might occur regardless even if we contain the virus to China mostly. We already have a pretty robust response in place. What’s next? Sever all flights with China and all the other infected countries? I agree this could be Trump’s undoing if it gets out of hand but is it time to impose panic inducing measures now? Time will tell.

“What’s next? Sever all flights with China and all the other infected countries? I agree this could be Trump’s undoing if it gets out of hand but is it time to impose panic inducing measures now? Time will tell.”

Something like 85% to 90% of the flights to China are gone already, as no one will fly there. So it’s just a matter of grounding the rest, so we don’t also end up with a “Love Boat”, like they have in Japan now.

“Coronavirus is a double-edged threat that can bring down the Trump administration and forfeit any Republican control of Congress if the president does not get in front of this potential plague.”

I’d love to tell you Trump is doing just fine, and that the common flu kills more people, so nothing to worry about - but then I’d be lying.

I was listening to a guy on the radio yesterday, a kind of infomercial...but he also gives out some useful stuff on investing. He spent a few seconds wrapping up impeachment, and said that it was priced-in, we all knew the outcomes, so no big impact to markets...and he was right.

Then he went to Coronavirus, more or less said the same, but then he qualified it and said something like “Who am I to second-guess the experts?” - they’re saying not to worry, and they have access to far more information than me.

Well, the World Health Organization (WHO) has been trying to get into China for over a month now to look at this disease - are they really going to flat-out say that China is lying to the world, even though that’s more than obvious, given everything else they’re doing? So, as people familiar with the obesity/diabetes epidemic, and the politics which created it, sustain it, and will not permit its solution, even ‘experts’ always answer to others, and most of the time, those ‘others’ have agendas - as we’re also learning here.

Numbers have no basis: the CCP is releasing only politically “manageable” numbers; JH has no insight into the reality of China’s misery; many thousands of bodies are being incinerated daily in Wusan; hundreds and hundreds are left to die in lines to hospitals because they are too sick to admit; spaces that hold 1000 are sealed without anything nothing other than ramen admitted through one way slots; many more that survive the virus die later of organ failure.

Good to hear from you NB on this amazing, emerging Black Swan event.

A couple of things:

No one knows or can know what the “true numbers” are in China. If an event of this magnitude were happening here we wouldn’t know either.

The illness itself is coming into focus, the deterioration with severe lymphocyte depletion in the third week is very interesting, and makes me wonder if there is not something to the HIV gp120 insertion story, which I took to be science fiction. Several reports from Thailand and from the Washington State case suggest that antivirals are very effective, ramping up production by evil Big Pharma will become an issue and then a crisis.

What happens to the 4000 passengers and crew on the Diamond Princess anchored at Yokohama is very important to our understanding. Japan has (so far) taken off sick, virus + patients and admitted them to isolation hospitals - but there are 64 new cases today (it is said), and they cannot handle 4000 or anything like that safely, should it eventually prove necessary. Watch if world governments start demanding for their nationals to be released from quarantine (this would be predicted by previous pandemic wargaming).

I would begin to prepare your personal situation, and only then your finances, for the End of China (not the nation, but the State, and the “economy”). It makes me laugh, the people who think the end of the China phenomenon as regards the “global economy” is the worst thing that could happen - it isn’t, not by a damn sight - if China is the only place you can find food for your dog, there’s something seriously wrong with you.

Lastly, the GOP and the “demonrats” - much too soon to tell. Trump has not done enough, but coloring within the lines he has done more and done it faster than any other conceivable alternative leader.

He’s assembled an all star team, he’s taking their advice. The globalization crowd is “resisting”, sabotaging, pushing back hard in their tens of thousands of government and NGO sinecures - but arrivals from China are way down. There are holes in the defensive wall - nonstops still fly from Hong Kong to Boston, for example, a non-screening airport -but arrivals are down and so far are staying that way.

If this gets as bad as I expect, no open borders or open borders tolerant politician will survive.

Canada is a big concern - their mini-Macron is still in a public position of “come one, come all because muh values”, it’s unclear what, if anything the Canadian Deep State is doing abut that, and him.

The numbers from Germany go up every day. Are they saying they are all related (clustered) with the Singapore conference attendee, or is there more to it?

Hope you stay well.

Just reported that another 60 people on that ship tested positive, now Japan is “considering” testing all passengers. I am a cruise guy but they are petris dishes. Rethinking my cruise in the fall this year at this point.

The cruise lines may be bankrupt by this fall.

I think they’ve decided that Singapore has ‘community transmission’ of this now and probably the UK as well.

Not just them.

Evil Big Pharma will prove unable to ramp up production of effective antivirals fast enough and will be nationalized. Without effect.

Steve Bannon now reads reports that the actual death rate is 15%

That would require a lot of extra mortality to be hidden, which is possible. But it would also require that there are not a lot of hidden cases. We've seen plenty of mild cases in west. With our testing we have not missed a lot of cases, hopefully. The question is how many cases have the Chinese missed.

In short the mortality could be anywhere from a little over 2% (their announced rate), higher, or much lower. We don't have enough information to know yet.
