Does this satellite image show the scale of China's coronavirus cremations? Sulphur dioxide emissions which are produced when bodies are burned reach alarming levels in Wuhan

High sulphur dioxide levels at the centre of the coronavirus outbreak could be a sign of mass cremations, it has been claimed.

Satellite maps in recent days have shown alarming levels of SO2 around Wuhan, the Chinese city where the outbreak began.

In addition, there were high sulphur dioxide levels in the city of Chongqing which is also under quarantine.

Scientists say that sulphur dioxide is produced when bodies are cremated, and also when medical waste is incinerated.

But social media users who investigated the maps have suggested that dead bodies could be being burned on the outskirts of the city.

China has decreed that the bodies of coronavirus victims should be cremated in low-key funerals to prevent large public gatherings.

The country's National Health Commission said earlier this month that bodies should be 'cremated close by and immediately'.

On top of that, there have been repeated claims - albeit unverified - that officials are concealing a higher-than-reported death toll with mass cremations.

The high sulphur dioxide levels in Wuhan would be consistent with a high number of cremations in the city.

One map from Czech-based weather service Windy.com showed sulphur dioxide levels in Wuhan at a staggering 1,350 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) over the weekend.

For comparison, the World Health Organisation (WHO) says that a dosage of 500 µg/m3 should not be exceeded for more than 10 minutes.

The UK government considers a 15-minute concentration of 533 µg/m3 to be 'high'.

According to the map, the SO2 levels were lower today but Wuhan and Chongqing still stood out compared to much of China.

Parts of Wuhan still showed concentrations above 500 µg/m3 on Monday, the map suggested.

Scientists say that cremating bodies releases SO2 along with other pollutants including nitrogen oxides.

The US Environmental Protection Agency says that

They might also be incinerating people who did not die from the virus. Just putting folks down nazi-style.

There are 49 crematories in Wuhan. No data on how many ovens each other than one which has 24. THat facility typically runs all ovens 4 hours per day, 5 days per week or 120 cremations per week. Reasonable for a site of 11 million in a province of 58 million people. That crematory is said to be running 24/7 now which would close to 1000 cremations per week for one facility alone.

The official CCP death toll and these rumors are definitely in conflict, not to mention the SiO2 evidence now.

38 pack-years of cigarettes

I think the units are packs/year. 38 pack-years suggests that if you smoke 1 pack over 38 years you are at high risk. Likewise 38 packs in one month is only about 3 pack years suggesting that you are at low risk.

Sounds like you prefer to believe what the CCP government is putting out, which is exactly what they want you to do.

The rest of us are providing data from independent sources, with the stipulation that it is unconfirmed. Perhaps you should read more and post less.

[More people staying home, locked down, using electric heat to warm their apartments during winter 24/7 will actually use more electricity, requiring more coal burning than normal. ]

It’s not clear the average Chinese household can afford home electric heat. Per capita income is around $8K. That’s about $700 a month. Median salaries are likely far lower, perhaps $300-$400, because of the lopsided income distribution there.

I don’t imagine that the Chinese, or anyone else, places their power generation plants smack dab in the middle of the city - as the image shows the highest concentrations in the city center area where, oddly, the crematoriums are located

Wuhan is completely CLOSED. There are no factories, no one is allowed outside, most people have been literally chained into their apartments.

The SO2 emissions are NOT from coal or industrial pollution.

The same goes for Chongqing- a city of 36 million.

Factories, shipyards, farming, and yes, even their oil refineries are shut down still. Apple only had 10% of their workers show up for work today at one plant, zero at the big one in Shenzhen.

Even Beijing is locked down now.

China is acting as if it is at war - internally. This is absolutely NOT business as usual. We are not being doomsayers over this, merely observing some really extreme behavior.

That is cause for the beginning of heightened readiness.

>>I would imagine we have satellites capable of such high solution imaging that we wouldn’t have to speculate on the basis of SO2 emissions.<<

Yes, we(US) knows what’s up with the SO2 emissions. The bigger issue is the food supply to the area along with other everyday needed items are probably beginning to run out. Unless something is done quickly this may end up being a mass death situation where the original source of the problem was only the beginning of the horrific results.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

It’s not so much that the official death toll is in conflict with the rumors, as they are in conflict with the draconian and large scale measures taken. If this is basically a small scale version of the annual flu season, these measures are overwrought and hysterical. But they make perfect sense if tens of thousands have been secretly cremated. A plague of this scale would seriously (and deservedly) dent the reputation that the Party has cultivated of being all-knowing and omnipotent.

Given the size of Wuhan, a boost in cremations due to the epidemic wouldn't be out of the ordinary, assuming the regime is lying about the actual number of dead.

China is not counting those that die who are sealed in their homes or in quarantined camps; those who are not admitted to hospitals, those that die after recovering due to organ failure.

A patient has to be officially tested positive and then die to be counted <- the minority of cases

There are 49 crematories in Wuhan

Others say it is only 10 crematoriums - their may be 49 funeral parlors but they don’t all cremate. I don’t know personally, but if there are 49 running 24/7 (as claimed) doing 280 bodies daily (as claimed) for the past 40 days, then that’s a lot of people burned and a lot of S02 - the ridiculous number is over half a million ... dead
