"That would be the end."

Why? Who buys 1/2 pound bags of heroin at Walmart, for $19.95? Who dies? What loss has the US suffered?

They are useless for industry, the military, ditch digging, and the streets of SF and LA would finally be clean, after the rains come...

The sewage washes out to sea, recycles...

you say “treatment” like its a cure or something.....it takes many rounds of treatment for a small number of people to be cured....and its not really a cure....its substituting one drug for another with the hope that the psychological side catches up..

I like the concept of freedom for adults and if people overdose or lose their jobs it should be THEIR problem. The society we have keeps bailing out people for their own behavior. If we let them suffer the consequences, then the freedom thing might work.

Libertarians have some good ideas, but they are often too idealistic. Ideas have to be practical and workable.

>>I’d say keep it criminal but change sentencing for users (not dealers)

Why not dealers? If you’re going to legalize or in any way decriminalize, why would it still be illegal to sell or distribute? That makes no sense.

It’s a somewhat trivial matter whether or not they legalize heroin and meth. The idiots who use too much will kill themselves, and in the big picture, life really won’t change much at the macro level.

It will be a far, FAR different matter if they legalize LSD. THAT would have VERY far reaching implications at the societal and global levels.

A war lost decades ago that cost more money than World War II, more casualties than the Civil War, more years than Afghanistan, more civil disregard for the rule of law than Vietnam.

Double down, double down again, and yet again, this time we will surely win this war!

I’ve seen many who abused drugs while receiving Social Security disability income.

When Wallace pushed Buttigieg to clarify what decriminalization might entail, he couldn’t provide any specifics,......

He never does on anything he speaks about...he’s got no answers, just flowery talk and more flowery talk so he can be seen as the neighborly mr Rodgers.....

Buttigiege is a fake.

The new drug tolerance regime is costing us immeasurably and will cost increasingly more in many ways. It’s costly enormously in tax revenues through many government programs, in suffering from crimes committed, in our losses of freedoms (see drug legalization states passing gun control laws), further destruction of the family, further damage to children from misinformation in schools, further damage against national security,...

And look at the political party that Bootyjuice is appealing to for votes and getting those votes. Look what the most popular illegal drug does to political thought in the human mind.

SF. LA. Seattle. All give away junk and free needles. Same with NYC

METH is for poor idiots who can’t afford cocaine

Pot is already totally legal.

Pharmaceutical drugs are the biggest problem

Drug overdoses kill far more Americans than firearms or auto accidents. China solved its opium problem by executing pushers. Users were given the choice between death and cold turkey while locked up.

There’s been no war on drugs, yet. The “war on drugs” that we’ve seen was only a metaphor.

Buttigieg says he wants treatment instead of jail. Well, show me the huge facilities staffed with professionals first. Then we’ll change the laws.

Drugs are a commodity. That means money. Get control of the money and you get control of the problem. Laws prevent minors from purchasing alcohol. What laws require minors to show id to buy drugs? The war on drugs has been a failure for over 100 years. Legalize the crap and get it over with or bring back the 18th. Amendment

Alcohol kills more than illicit drugs.
