SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An evacuee who tested positive for the coronavirus in San Diego was mistakenly released back into quarantine because their test sample was mislabeled.

Four evacuees were brought from MCAS Miramar to UC San Diego Medical Center and provided samples for testing within the last week. Three of those four samples were not labeled in compliance with the same regulations between UC San Diego Health and the CDC, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesperson.

Because of this, when the samples were brought to the CDC in Atlanta, three of them were not immediately processed

There needs to be some firing over such a dangerous mistake.

That is a clue as to how this may have started in China, if one assumes that it got out of their bio-weapons facility.

People make mistakes - it is not a bug, it is a feature. Here it may have severe consequences.

This is just with 4 samples.

Imagine you’re trying to correlate results from a couple thousand.

Also, was the lab technician a doomer?

When hospitals pay new secretaries more than nurses with degrees and lab techs even less, what can you expect?

How indeed. This is why I'm reluctant to allow anyone from the affected zones to come to CONUS until after they've quarantined elsewhere.
Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

Good God! Whenever I give a blood sample they check and recheck six ways to Sunday that it is labeled correctly and that I match the label on the sample.

This sounds like elementary medical protocol.

“Okay - how about Mr. Jones? How did his test come back?”

“It came back positive.”

“(Hmm - ‘postive’ is good) - “OKAY! Mr. Jones you’re good to leave!”

“Umm - I feel really lousy and can barely breath - are you sure I can leave?”

“Positive!”

If someone collecting your blood does not verify the labeled tube with you, make them. Could be a mislabel of the secondary tube at the receiving lab. Making assumptions about the receiving lab. With this virus, the primary tube was most likely sent to minimize risk at the local level.
