The Democrats are learning all over again the meaning of “slippery slope”.

For years, the Democrats have embraced the dogma of the left, and stood in admiration about the “efficient” way that the declared objectives of Marxist thought seemed to offer leading to the assumption of power.

But power is a two-edged sword. If the progressives cannot make the system work (and human nature has too much of a greedy aspect to passively accept total socialism), then the “enforcers” must be called. It is only a short step then for a paramilitary force to be brought in, and the harsh enforcement, up to and including imprisonment and mass executions of the “resistant” factions impervious to efforts at “re-education”, becomes the national policy. Initiative and a system of personal rewards for innovation and positive contribution to the betterment of mankind are abolished, ground to dust in the stifling and circumscribed range of human thought. Cuba, North Korea, and Venezuela show the end results of this policy, and humanity is once again yoked to worship of the strong man, or death and slavery as the only alternatives.

Command-and-control societies may be “efficient”, but they are also total dead ends.

Nice observations there, alloysteel.

Initial good intentions eventually give way to violence.

In Russia, the Red Guard would knock on the door and take the man of the household away to be re-educated in Siberia.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn remarked that it was in the early days of the takeover when the fundamental mistake was made to not fight. If a few Guards failed to come home after the men in a tenement building ganged together with clubs, knives, and fists to drive them out, then the Revolution may have been short-lived.

The 2nd Amendment was designed to give us a better chance of stopping failed police states from easily enforcing their “stimulus programs”.

In another time and place, Pelosi and Schiff would have been more effective.
