Last company I worked for would even pay your travel time to the airport if you were traveling

I feel that if you are traveling as a requirement for your job, that you should be paid for 24/7 for the entire time that you are away. I mean, are you free to go home when you are sitting in a hotel room across the country or halfway around the world? No? Then you need to be paid for that time whether you are technically “at work“ or just eating, or sleeping. You are still away at your employer requirement and not on your own free time.

I agree, actually. I had to travel for work for a whole month a few years ago. It didn’t make sense to hop on a plane home every weekend, and it was cheaper to sit me in a hotel room than fly me back and forth.

But, yeah, I was away from home, family, etc.

I can’t imagine how people travel for work all of the time.

I’m self employed and travel for billable work occasionally. I bill at full hourly rate from the time I leave my front door till I reach the city where I’m staying. Check into hotel, stop for dinner, whatever. Once in town, I commute off the clock (I’d be commuting if I were home anyway), and bill only for time once I arrive at the customer till I leave for lunch or in the evening. Return trip home, same as trip out.
