As Placer Countys health officer, Dr. Aimee Sisson, did the math, she realized that quarantining those exposed to the new coronavirus was not going to contain the spread of the disease.
This realization hit Sisson as she and her team investigated a case of COVID-19 in a Placer County resident who had returned home Feb. 21 from a cruise to Mexico aboard the Grand Princess. The respiratory illness wasnt diagnosed until March 3, however, so for 11 days, other local people could have been infected.
While researchers have put the maximum incubation period for COVID-19 at 14 days, Sisson said, studies out of China show the average incubation may be four. Sisson said she had found six COVID-19 cases related to this traveler, with more tests pending.
If you think about how many periods of four days there are in 14 days, Sisson said, and if you think about every person with COVID-19 having the potential to spread it to...two to three people on average, and each of our sick people spreading it to two to three people who then spread it to two to three more people four to seven days later, you can see that this quickly grows exponentially literally, and so thats why we are concerned and are now saying the virus is now in our community.
Other public health officers in the region came to the same conclusion as the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health: Quarantines of asymptomatic people will not contain COVID-19.

Then you need to go to community quarantines.
Eventually we may be like the videos out of China, where Communities are self quarantining to keep people out.
I saw one video where a woman was riding her bike with possessions piled in her basket. Two men were blocking the road with brooms and told her to turn around. That she wasn’t wanted there. When she didn’t they started to hit her with the brooms.
Seems like the actual (hinted-at) conclusion was:
Quarantines are hopeless - the disease spreads too quickly! We're doomed!
Regards,
She WANTS the virus to spread.
Her logic is exactly wrong.
The reason you want to test people is to eliminate them as needing quarantine.
Now you have to assume everybody in the county is a positive.
That means the rest of the state will need to quarantine the entire county, Italy style.
Her call....
Quarantine the planet! No one gets in or out.
I don’t understand her logic. Why expose more people?
Why expose more people?
Because Trump?
Either its not as big a threat as being made out (maybe a little more dangerous than the flu)
Or, as a Democrat, shes looking to crash the system and get Trump out of office.
Or shes an idiot.
Math is hard.
I think you're right. As long as the test is sensitive and specific enough, it demonstrates your point.
Somebody needs to send this article to Tucker Carlson. Sacramento County needs to be called out on national TV.
It’s not a matter of her “math”, it’s a matter of established, tried-and-true protocols. Per the CDC, when there is an outbreak of a novel virus (one with no vaccine or cure), you isolate the sick, track down everyone they had close contact with and test those people for the virus. She should know this. The R0 will tell her how many people each sick person is likely to infect, and therefore how fast the disease is likely to spread and how draconian the isolation and quarantines need to be. Her opinion is of no value here.
She’s concerned about the closure of schools and public institutions and all the government employees that would idle.
Stupid idiot bureaucRAT. She made the case FOR quarantines.
She WANTS the virus to spread.
********************************
IMHO, you just scored BINGO.
“Shes concerned about the closure of schools and public institutions and all the government employees that would idle.”
Well if that’s true, when this bug is crawling up her front lawn or into her childrens’ school, she’ll see things differently.
Better a few thousand citizens die than for the veil of deception to come crashing down.
cuz they don’t know what to do with 6000 homeless crazy bums ping
Wow, a person who actually thinks things out. I didn't know we
still had folks who could do that in California.
