Managing dual health and economic crises, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will invoke emergency powers that allow the government to marshal the private sector in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump, now describing himself as a “wartime president,” said he was employing the Defense Production Act “in case we need it” as the government bolsters resources for an expected surge in cases of the virus.

I don't like this idea for the sole reason that we will probably be stupid enough to elect another demonicRAT President some day and he or she will find or manufacture a reason to do the same and will not be nearly as self-restraining enough to not abuse the powers.

You’re totally right to be wary of this -> anyone who isn’t wary is crazy. But on balance ... sometimes we have only the least worst option from which to choose.

For 3 years, Trump carefully followed the letter of every law while the Democrats called him “Hitler” and “Dictator”. It was silly.
Then COVID-19 hit and the Democrats attacked Trump for not seizing total control and tackling this problem.
Now the President is following the letter of the law and taking on Emergency powers.
Hard to complain about his action. Democrats may try but they won’t get traction.
What are the other options?
Perhaps American business will develop capabilities that stay in America and feed American supply chains after the ChiCom Flu is gone. We are entirely too reliant on our enemies for necessities. Oil futures are down to $20/bbl today. F’n Saudis need their asses kicked. There won’t be new drilling in America at that price. I want their economy to fold, bunch of ungrateful jihadists. Let them eat sand, and drink camel piss.
You won’t get any harsh words from me. I love President Trump but he won’t be in the White House forever.
We know how good the Dems are at distorting and abusing their power. The last 3 years have given us daily reminders of just how far they will go.
In many ways this act will help the private sector get what they need to help the cause. I don’t see it as the govt. getting in the way but rather clearing the way.
The dems do whatever they want anyhow. Justification or not.

I don’t think that ... and I’m quite sure a majority of the people on FR agree with you. Just keep in mind that the Rats would do this anyway. Trump would appear to be constrained compared to what those idiots would do.
Whatever. I know I'm pissing up a rope. This exactly the type of critical thinking our government run education system is designed to perpetuate. How I fell through the cracks is beyond me. I'm just glad I did. Maybe God loves me more than others.
What makes you think they wouldn’t do this anyway? He has a much better chance of successfully fighting this epidemic. Besides most of the public actually wants this.
