There are reasons to be optimistic, new anti-viral drugs, etc. But I’m not going to base my optimism on Chinese propaganda.

80,000 people died of the flu the winter of 2017-2018 and nobody blinked.
But any people who died of coronavirus would be blamed on Trump.
This is the only thing he could have done to overcome Democrat demagoguery.
That said, yes, I don't trust the Chinese statistics either. Some areas may be so tightly cordoned off that they aren't reporting the number of cases, or the authorities may just have made up numbers.

There is not a good side to all these things.
But we do know that isolation or quarantine works.
It’s hard not to overreact when the media hypes it 24x7.
Every day in our daily newspaper, we get an entire page diagramming statistics on the Kung Flu. It shows county by county in CA how many people have been diagnosed and how many have died. What it DOESN’T show, and what would be immensely helpful, IMHO, is to show new cases reported in the last 24 or 48 hours as well as how many of those reported cases have now recovered.
For example, seeing that Santa Clara County has 250 reported cases so far is meaningless to me. How many of those have been reported recently and how many have recovered means something! Not showing trends of the virus is an easy path for the government to keep us on lockdown semi-permanently, or at least until the economy makes the 1930s look prosperous.
