They told the President they would make ventilators a few days ago, but yesterday they told him they would not be ready until the end of April and they wanted to charge top dollar for the ventilators.
They used to be able to switch over very fast, weeks even, but former GM active employee I know very well says that now they are too lazy to get going that fast. ;)
In gas turbine technology, the government ordered Pratt and GE to share the exact same approved design and manufacturing process.
Does GM get somebody else’s design and they (GM) are tasked with production? What parts of production? How many parts are COTS and how many are proprietary? Lots of details.

There are certainly some PCB and controls issues too. Displays for user interface. I’d guess the BOM for a ventilator has 500 lines, but some of those are fairly complex subassemblies.
GM and Ventech ... GM might just be the money man.

I read an article about Dyson vacuums. The UK government asked him if he could make a ventilator. His team designed one in 10 days working 24/7. They will hit the streets in early April. Dyson will donate the first 5,000 units.
