Interesting find. I guess they knew no more coming in
from the deceased so get a bit from the living family.

Only six states impose an inheritance tax.

So if you’re inheriting something from a person who lived in any of the following places, your inheritance might be subject to state taxes:

The old Hackney Carriage.
That’s the story we are always told as kids.

Back then, it was probably accurate.
With the recent “weaponized” biological viruses and chemicals, it seems to be airborne until it lands on solid objects and we come in contactt with the spores/droplets.
Who really knows?
I have 35yrs in Horticulture, Botany, Entomology, Virology, and still don;t know all there is to know about military weaponized agents.
Just guessing.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

***Great Plague of 1665-1666 How did London respond to it?***

...or, How did it end? I see a couple of posts above - MuttTheHoople and BillTheDrill - that doubt the fire of 1666 played a role in terminating the plague epidemic.

My memory thinks differently. I did work in the London parish registers from the beginning of parochial registration in 1538, ordered by Henry VIII, until 1670. Church registers that recorded births, marriages and deaths just prior to 1665 might contain 10 - 20 pages for a year. Suddenly in 1665 the registers exploded in size, some to hundreds of pages. Often the cause of death was noted in the register entry.

I do not really remember how the two crises merged, but my impression is that the fire basically ended the epidemic. Look at the map at #42 above and note that the fire blazed along the River Thames where the docks were and where the ship's that brought the rats from foreign shores docked. The sequence of the two disasters lends itself to a causal progression.

By that time my branch (dad’s side) had already been here for over 40 years.

Of course most of the family was still in England. He was a younger son who came over with some of the cousins.

From the records I have seen most of the family survived.

They blamed Donald Trump, and their heirs in NY City are still blaming him!

They may be walking that back. Lead editorial in today’s Denver Post says stop scapegoating over the virus. Apparently, Democrat officials and the media are feeling the heat, so it’s time to stop the blame game!

Thanks.

Lets hope so.

However, when I read what Pelosi and the NY governor are saying this morning, they haven’t changed.

I wholeheartedly agree. Shakespeare (b. 1564) was born just before a big outbreak of Plague, whew. The register from Stratford 1564 started the list of Plague victims with a handwritten header, 'Hic incipit pestis', Here begins the Plague.

LOL. Reagan would get blamed were he around, probably would have turned it into a joke, like the speech he gave at a high school, saying "Thomas Jefferson once said" quoting whatever, paused, and then added, "and when he told me that..."
