A drug hailed by US president Donald Trump as a potential treatment for coronavirus appears to be safe but its effectiveness is still unknown, according to an Oxford-led research team. Hydroxychloroquine is one of the medicines undergoing clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy. It is used as a treatment against malaria and certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. More than 300 researchers from the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) international community, including a team from the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, have been investigating whether there are serious side effects from the drug.

As I understand it - it works better as soon as you find out you have the virus.
It appears many hospitals are waiting until just before the patient has to be put on a ventilator before they give it a go. Little late for most.
Fauci was wrong, wrong, wrong in belittling the President and all the doctors who used these drugs.
The situation is too serious to get into a melee....let Fauci hang himself....and he's doing just that at every turn.

Fauci tried his best to cover for pharma companies that were working on much more expensive drugs. But eventually the pressure became too great and the dam burst.

I’m wondering (as I mentioned this on another thread) that the 240 k number was put out yesterday in order to avoid the “I told you so” trap, as was extending the restrictions to April 30 as the earlier date might be just that bit too close to that same territory. If the real number is not even close to 240,000, Fauci will likely have even that more egg on his face and we might be able to get back up and running that bit sooner.
Ugh.... the fact that it is safe in proper does has been known for YEARS. Article is basicly saying that water, if taken in the right does, is found to be safe.

Agree with you on all points. The FDA and CDC own Fauci. I say he resigns and real soon. Within the week.
In its approval letter, the FDA wrote that "[b]ased on the totality of scientific evidence available to FDA, it is reasonable to believe that chloroquine phosphate and hydroxychloroquine sulfate may be effective in treating COVID-19."
This is an amazing statement.
In my youth malaria infected hundreds of millions of people.
HCQ side effects are well-known.

Isn’t this medicine used a lot in Africa? Now they are checking to see how safe it is? So it doesn’t hurt them but might hurt us, we must be more sensitive, or are they just racist.
