Clinical trials are key to effective treatments, even if it means LONG DELAYS IN THE USE OF the MAJORITY OF PATIENTS WHO NEED THEM, said Dr. William Schaffner, medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases and an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“There are any number of drugs in the laboratory that seem to have some kind of anti-viral effect,” he said. “That’s very intriguing. But there’s a long distance between what works in the lab and what works in humans.”
But some experts are pushing back against the hype, warning that none of these findings were the results of rigorous, peer-reviewed trials.
“The one paper that was published has been challenged — severely challenged — by the world of medicine and science,” Tracey said.
Dr. Kenneth Kaushansky, senior vice president of health services and dean of the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, said he reached out to New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker to discuss Stony Brook as a site for a clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
“No one believes these drugs are going to be the silver bullet that cures COVID-19,” he said. “At best, it might prevent the disease from progressing.”
Kaushansky said the anecdotal evidence shows it might be effective.
“We ought to be testing that in a carefully controlled clinical trial,” he said

Thanks for monitoring CNN and MSNBC. I haven’t watched either channel since the beginning of 2019. I don’t even to them on satellite radio. I want their rating to completely disappear.
While allowing THE PATIENT’S IMMUNE SYSTEM to “cure” the COVID-19 by production and releasing of antibodies.
The correct antibodies have to be discovered by the body to fight the infection. When we vaccinate, we are teaching the body about a specific threat.
This virus is “novel” because hardly anyone has antibodies already in their system for it. If they’re on their way to dying, their body is not figuring it out and does not have the correct antibodies.
These drugs attack the virus directly and don’t confer any immunity in such a case.
The plasma from a recovered patient, on the other hand, may transfer immunity directly from one person to another.
Unfortunately, it seems that the only doctors on the web are cranks.
And Trumpsters should come back with a question. If blacks are more susceptible why is Africa relatively free of infection?

You DO understand that when YOUR immune system encounters a new virus type for the first time that it begins the process of producing new antibodies that are then used by the immune system in its fight against that new type of virus?

What I think I know, is that some types of “antibodies” are keyed to proteins or things like allergens. They attach to these and mark them to be destroyed by white blood cells. Attached antibodies also make it back to the lymph nodes and maybe the splean, where the success of the antibody is recognized and used to initiate its massive replication. This begins the directed fight of the infection.
Your body keeps some level of past successful antibodies floating around to initiate this process again, if needed. So, each person has their own set of antibodies in their system.
This virus can range in impact from almost no symptoms to death. My take is that some people have a relatively easy time of finding the correct antibody solution to detect and destroy it, while others die trying.

First of all, if I’m dying I want the RIGHT TO TRY! It’s my life!
Second, in an emergency such as this you can get results almost as good as clinical trials by simply giving the meds to a fairly representative group of patients and see how they do. You can use statistics to determine whether their mortality rate falls within the range of the general patient population or whether it is significantly better or worse.
If the typical death rate is 5%, and you take 1000 patients and give them the meds and only one person dies, you have a high probability that it wasn’t coincidental.

actually, these drugs (and most antivirals and most antibiotics for that matter), don’t actually kill the bugs, but prevent them from replicating and/or in the case of viruses, from penetrating the cells, and thereby preventing viral replication ... once antivirals/antibiotics stop the bugs from replicating, the immune system is USUALLY no longer overwhelmed with wildly replicating bugs and can kill the ones that can no longer replicate ...

The tedious clinical trials of the 1200 cases in New York are playing right into the hands of the rabid Fake Media. The more the results of the trials are delayed, the better. Now if Gov. Coumo can spike the results, they would have a coup of Trump’s credibility. With this “Dr. Trump” ridicule, they think they have a game changer. Not!
