STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- New Yorkers who die at home are not being tested for COVID-19, even if they had flu- or coronavirus-like symptoms at the time of death, which is likely leading to a massive underreporting of COVID-19 fatalities.
.....
A spokeswoman for the medical examiners office told Gothamist that an additional 200 people are dying at home each day, in addition to the 20 to 25 people that died at home each day before the pandemic.

Many people would rather die at home than in a chaotic hospital. Some hospitals are also turning away people with serious symptoms.
Before the pandemic: 20-25 die at home per day.
Now: 220-225 die at home per day
(NYC)
Thats okay since theyre adding anyone who dies right now and who they deem suspect.
I wish they would publish the total daily death rate and also include comparisons with prior months and years (death rates are higher in the winter than the summer)
Not wanting to be insensitive, but I wonder if all this involving New York likely gives support to the idea of watching that state very strictly, especially the hot spots, and opening up that good rest of the country fairly soon.
The big difference now is that everyone that dies is called a China Flu statistic.
Cold be Red China had lots of Chinese virus victims that dropped dead in their tiny Communist apartments. Maybe thousands. Maybe tens of thousands.
death stats arent what were predicted. So, they find more deaths to add to the pile.
No one believes the government or the press.
They’ll all be registered Demonicrat voters before they are in the grave.
You have no idea at ll ow physicians determine cause of death.
None.
I live on Staten Island and i’m good with that.
Let us get back to normal by end of April though and just take some extra measures
Rest of the country should be back to business tomorrow.
That’s OK in NY they are already counting those who died of cancer and calling it death by coronavirus so it makes up for it
Yep
And you can verify this....
No autopsy. No COVID-19 testing. Nothing.
My brother was told he could have a "private autopsy" but would cost $10,000+,
Absolutely.
Well the likelihood of people who are dying in hospitals are being counted as Covid-19 caused deaths is probably also occurring.
I think this is all BS. If someone dies outside a hospital, there must be an autopsy to determine cause of death. An autopsy will determine is Covid 19 was a cause of implicated. I would think that the coroner would be required to report that.
In hard-hit parts of NY and NJ, healthcare is in shambles.
It’s one thing to get sick, be treated as best as possible, and die.
But it’s more tragic that people are dying because they were basically triaged, i.e. instructed to self monitor when they were at risk.
Yes, many would and so they aren't counted. But I would like to see a comparison of how many have died in the last 2 months or so from heart attacks, cancer, etc. for comparison to previous years averages. While I believe there are undercounts, I suspect there are overcounts as well.
