Governor Cuomo is considering opening drive-in movie theaters during the pandemic. He announced Sunday that the Empire State Development is looking into making drive-ins an exception to the state mandate that all non-essential businesses must be closed.
"Where is the public safety issue? Its a drive-in theater. Youre in the car with the same people," said Governor Cuomo during his daily briefing.
Paul Dean is the owner of the Vintage Drive In in Avon. He opened the drive-in in 1997 and hopes he can open it again this season.
"This would be an avenue for people to come out and be safe and watch a movie from their car with their family," said Dean. He says if the drive-in can be opened, they would admit fewer cars in order to allow for more space between each car. Concession stands would implement safe social distancing practices as well.

There are still drive-in movie theaters?
It was fun seeing “The Godfather” at a Staten Island makeshift drive in theater some years back.
What the hell. It would be somewhere to go for entertainment and get people into “leaving the house” mode.
Hey, a Democrat says something sane during all this.
There are a few fossils still in place, here and there.
Some are even in regular use, or were before The Virus.
How about bringing back the old drive-in restaurant? Eat in your car and watch the cars circle round...
Wow. That’s mighty white of him.
QUICK SOMEBODY Book screenings of all the Billy Graham Crusade movies and the Fulton J Sheen TV Series

Too bad Hollywood is producing nothing worth driving in to see.
How about drive in churches?
Both of them?
At least he is looking for more businesses to open, instead of more businesses to close.
He’ll get his attitude adjusted - this doesn’t fit the Dem narrative that unless we have a 100% mail-in election, we’re all gonna die.
Drive-ins dont work so well in upstate NY. It is too cold in the winter, to rainy in the spring, and doesnt get dark enough until 9pm in summer, thanks to dst. We still have real drive-ins here in Arizona, where they can operate year round, and there is no dst.
We used to have one here in Rome, New York until about 6-7 years ago. It had double screens, and played triple features. One screen was for kids movies, and the other screen played the current feature films. They'd built a brand, new snack building, and a year or two later it closed. They sold the property to a car dealership.
SPJNK.
He’s teasing a restart of lower risk businesses. It is a good move, actually.
