he power of the coronavirus pandemic as a potential global “game changer” may be on full display in the South China Sea. China is stepping up its operations in the international waterway while the U.S. Defense department grapples with over 1,500 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in its ranks.

The pandemic began in Wuhan, China and peaked in the Communist country in February. China’s numbers may reek of skepticism but by all accounts, they have seen the worst of the disease. Barring any 2nd wave of COVID-19, the country is slowly returning to normal with their military unscathed and at full strength.

See - that brave carrier captain was so heroic to let the Chinese know that they could patrol the waters with impunity.

That captain is an imbecile who should have been court martialed for his despicable, open rebellion.

The South China Sea is not a vital interest. Our impending bankruptcy & collapse here are.

Exactly. Being the "policeman of the world" has done nothing for us but bankrupt our treasury and waste thousands of U.S. lives. We squandered TRILLIONS in Iraq and Afghanistan while the Chinese did not spend a dime for the fake "war on terror" after 9/11. We handed them the keys to the international trade throne room, and got NOTHING in return but cheap Walmart SKUs.

“how many of the crew are still still readily available”

550 have tested positive out of 3,500 tests given. They still have almost 1,500 to test.

But only about 100 are actually down sick and would not be able to man their station.

As for today’s Navy...I believe the Chief’s mess is still keeping them tight and ready. That’s where all the traditions and discipline is passed between generations and generations, going back to the Great British Navy. Centuries.

Not even Obama and Pelosi could kill that.

And I pity the poor bastards that will be burned or eaten by sharks when they think it’s time to take a shot.

They will live a short but exciting life once they decide to take on the US Navy at sea.

Here’s a more blunt article. Maybe someone will have time to post it.

“Our services are completely capable of doing whatever needs doing.”

Tell that to the ChiComs who were told otherwise by the Carrier TR’s Capt as he parked her in Guam and offloaded her crew!!!!! Announcing it to whole wide world!

I say firing him is too good.

“Am I wrong regarding today’s Navy?”

My Dad, retired O6/USNR, proudly showed me a picture of a few members of a destroyer crew.

I, former E5/USNR, was aghast!

Sortie the subs...much quicker sortie and can get to region at 36kts. China fears our Seawolf and Virginia class subs.

Thank you for the info. I'm sure you wouldn't have posted those stats if not public knowledge.

Yes, the CPO's used to actually make a ship run. However, if the Master Chief of the command is aligned with the politics of the Captain and E.O., then you get the same outcome.

BTW, do you know where to find the final conclusions of the Fergueson and McCain collisions with those freighters in the Straits? The initial reports suggested poor training, defective equipment, and a pissing contest between the female OOD and a female Officer in Charge of CIC. I read that both Captains were fired and a low-level Admiral was relieved. I gave up on trying to find the Navy's investigation determinations because it depressed me too much.

Given it seems China’s policy is to make sure everyone suffers at least as much as them and preferably more.

A lot of production requiring the cheapest or cheap labor has in resent years moved from China to Vietnam. Sneakers/shoes even TV’s. Best Buy has launched their own brand of budget TV’s branded “TCL”, these are all made in Vietnam.

China could just cause turmoil in the China Sea, which wouldn’t necessarily impact them, but for the very purpose of impacting other economies in the region.
