Mapping Ohio's 9107 coronavirus cases, updates and trends

Friday marked the eighth day of new reporting standards to comply with federal guidelines to now include cases identified from non-testing evidence and some other tests not previously included. This has resulted in 249 additional “probable” cases than would have been reported previously, including 74 on Friday.

That is just one variable that has played into tracking the numbers. Also, in the last week testing has ramped up significantly in prisons, even among those showing no symptoms. Prison officials on Friday identified 692 inmates and 197 staff with coronavirus, up from 489 inmates and 184 staff on Thursday.

I saw that Ohio posted 1115 new cases today and I was shocked to see this increase, but this is a result of a number of factors including testing the entirety of Ohio's inmate population symptoms or not and new guidelines that are not including "suspected" cases in the reporting not only "suspected" deaths. Expect as calls to open are growing that these inflated numbes are going to be the tool to say things are worse then they are.

Numbers are all out of whack now because of adjusting and including presumed missed cases etc....

Remember when a month ago the Ohio head of their health department said she knew for a fact that 100 thousand people in Ohio were infected.

Changing the measuring metric destroys the ability to gauge effectiveness of mitigation.

Betting they’ll find many with antibodies, many still carrying but not shedding, and some about to get ill.

Tough to keep score when the refs change the damn rules every time you turn around...

Dr Acton should be fired.

DeWhine should be recalled.

Slightly off target here, but Ohio related.

Does anyone know if the emergency stimulus check can be seized for child support arrearage?

I know someone who pays regularly now and has for years, but has a back support amount of 3 or 4 thousand dollars that he is hard pressed to catch up on, being a relatively low wage earner.

Anyway, they took it he told me today. Doesn’t seem quite right to me.

Part of the CARES stipulations include garnishing for delinquent child support.

“Remember when a month ago the Ohio head of their health department said she knew for a fact that 100 thousand people in Ohio were infected.”

A flyer came out of their health department stating there was treatment available in New York when the hospital ship arrived. Can’t count what ain’t there.

She is probably correct - in fact, it's probably low. It's just that many people show no symptoms - they are robust with healthy immune systems so they don't get sick, but they can be carriers. This is a good thing, since the more exposure, the greater the immunity as a whole.

They estimated 60 million in the US were exposed to the H1N1 flu resulting in about 17,000 deaths. This is more contagious than H1N1.

Don’t say dumb things.

She claimed 100,000 already infected a month ago. Not today.

And at the time it was believed to have a much higher death rate and the things you mention above were not being considered.

No reason to reset the goalposts for her.

That's not dumb. The exposure is probably in the millions in the US. The only reason we don't know is that the tests are still limited to people with symptoms.

There are many people who were infected, showed no symptoms, so never got tested and so they don't know they were infected. They must have said that hundreds of times at this point.

That is why they are waiting for the antibody test, which will give a much better indication as to how many were actually infected.

Sorry Dave but you don’t seem to understand.

This was a month ago.

So far they found 10,000 or so out of 80,000 tests.

That’s after a month.

Her statement was not based on the concept that 50 times more asymptomatic cases existed for every case. It’d be equivalent to her saying there were five million cases based in her understanding at the time.

76% of deaths are 70 or older.

92% of deaths are 60 or older.

Remember when a month ago the Ohio head of their health department said she knew for a fact that 100 thousand people in Ohio were infected.

She also predicted 6000-8000 new cases per day at peak WITH social distancing. Currently our 5-day rolling average is 864.
