TORONTO (AP) Canadians on Monday mourned the shocking rampage that left at least 18 dead in rural communities across Nova Scotia, after a gunman disguised as a police officer opened fire on people hunkered down in their homes, setting houses ablaze in the deadliest mass shooting in the countrys history.
Officials said the suspect, identified as 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman, also died in the weekend attack. Police did not provide a motive for the killings.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Chief Superintendent Chris Leather told a news conference Monday that police expect to find more victims once they are able to comb through all the crime scenes, some of which were left in smoldering ruins.
Leather said police teams were spread out at 16 crime scenes in central and northern Nova Scotia. He said some of the victims knew Wortman and some didnt.
Were relatively confident weve identified all the crime scenes. However we have been unable to fully examine all the crime scenes, Leather said. We have had five structure fires, most of those being residences, and we believe there may be victims still within the remains of those homes which burnt to the ground.
The dead included a policewoman. Another officer was wounded by gunfire and was recovering at home, Leather said.
The 18 innocent lives lost will be remembered throughout Canadas history, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said .
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau noted how close-knit Nova Scotia is.
The vast majority of Nova Scotians will have a direct link with one or more of the victims. The entire province and country is grieving right now as we come to grips with something that is unimaginable, Trudeau told an earlier news conference.
The pandemic will prevent us from mourning together in person, but a vigil will be

Canadians are notorious for their trust in government.
Hardly any information in this story.
Yup. The RCMP is famous for magically creating criminals. They just unilaterally decide which guns are now prohibited and voila - you are now breaking the law with your gun possession.
Impossible. Canada has gun control in place that U.S. Democrats can only ardently dream about.
Article says that Trudeau’s government is going to introduce legislation against “military style weapons”. Yet there is zero information on what sort of firearm(s) the murdering RCMP-wannabee denturist used in his spree. No crisis allowed to go to waste, eh?
How can they say it was “senseless” if they don’t know what motivated it?
Or claim the dead were all innocent if they don’t know why they were shot?

The ‘Burger Killer’...
Someone here will understand this.
Oh, wait a minute ...
Trudeau said Monday his government would introduce further gun control legislation prohibiting military-style assault weapons, a measure that had already been planned before the coronavirus pandemic interrupted the current parliamentary session.
One suspects that the evil perp was not worried about breaking any gun control laws.
Such a pity that the innocent victims were (one assumes) unarmed and defenseless.

Thanks, that provides more but still perplexed as to why he would extend his rampage past his ex and the boyfriend. Also interested in knowing more about the cop ramming his car and then getting shot.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that there's more to the story than what's been told.
I saw a photo of the "fake RCMP police cruiser" in a Nova Scotia report on this story yesterday, and I could only conclude one of two things:
1. The RCMP police cruiser was actually a stolen vehicle, not one that was made up to look like a police cruiser.
2. The job looked so realistic that the guy had to have professional help doing it.
The Burger Killer..
Is this a reference to the Handgun Control Inc (now the Brady Center) supporter who shot the mayor of SF, and queer as a three dollar bill Harvey Milk?
He claimed eating junk food is what set him off.
Law abiding Canadians will pay the price for this.
...or maybe the shooter actually WAS a cop?
This could totally have been prevented if Canada had strict gun control. Oh wait...
Read up on the Killdozer. People who feel they have been affronted will sometimes go to great lengths for retribution.
