Border wall construction ‘cam’ live this week: ‘164 miles of promises kept’
Washington Examiner ^ | April 21, 2020 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 04/21/2020 12:45:50 PM PDT by BeauBo

The Trump administration this week plans to set up a border camera to stream the construction of the wall President Trump promised in 2016 and that his administration is delivering on.

Under consideration since top aide Jared Kushner first proposed it in November, the “wall cam” will go live some day this week, said an administration official. It will show the construction of the first 164 miles of the complicated border wall...

The wall camera will be on the website of U.S. Customs and Border Protection...

Key issues included making sure the camera did not show proprietary information, technology, and techniques, especially of contractors. Also at issue was the safety of border agents.

As a result, what people will see is a stream of video with the concerning shots edited out. It will also be from construction taken during daylight hours.

It will be on a loop showing the last 30 days of construction from various sections of the wall.

It will be fun to see the highlights of the wall construction, whenever the mood strikes.

The article embeds a 17 April 2020 memo on the status of the Wall Program, which describes a total of 731 miles funded - 22 miles less than the total of 753 miles, which has been reported weekly since Valentine's Day. Not sure where or why the adjustment was made.

Here is the Wall Cam we talked about the other day.

The Administration will have video highlights of the prior 30 days of Wall construction available on the web (somewhere on the CBP website), starting sometime later this week.

How many miles of wall will complete the task?
I know that there are natural barriers, so the entire border will not have to have a wall.

Partner, thank you so much for providing us the feedback on the construction of our Southern Border Wall.

We have a builder as our POTUS and he knows how to build this border wall.

As long as we get the Southern Border Wall except of course for the Big Bend Area.

A lot of these Illegal Alien vermin are coming thru all over the Southern Border.

“How many miles of wall will complete the task?”

The Comprehensive Plan called for about 1,100 miles of effective barrier, but 221 miles of pre-existing barrier was deemed effective, leaving about 880 miles to be built.

164 of those have been built, leaving roughly 715 miles to go.

569 miles of those are reported as already funded, leaving about 146 to go - but the $3.6 billion in FY 2020 Military Construction money that was announced, has not yet been transferred, and is enough to finish the job.

Although the whole job should be funded and on contract this year, Contractors will be working hard through next year (2021) to deliver the finished product.

So Bottom Line: The whole job is already in the pipeline. Getting the money was the main battle, and enough is now identified.

As we go way down toward the end of the priority list, it gets easier to trade off barrier for more people and technology, so there is probably some trade space (wiggle room) there.

Also, there is a wedge in the ten year baseline budget for building border barrier, inserted under Speaker Ryan, of about $1.5 billion per year, that will run till 2027. That will allow a reasonable annual construction program to continue, constantly extending the total, and quickly patching any new gaps that smugglers start exploiting.

“Where is the wall cam?”

It is supposed to be put up somewhere on the cbp.gov website, later this week.

It will (reportedly) not be a single cam, but rather a running compilation of video clips of construction over the prior 30 days. So it will be showing the recent status of multiple (if not all) of the construction sites.

When I see it, I’ll ping you with it.

If Biden (or another Rat) is elected, there will be an EO within 48 hours of inauguration stopping construction and starting dismantling. Don't doubt me on that.

What is the status of the construction on the border wall these days?

The media has been so busy hyperventilating about the virus that they have virtually ignored everything else.

"What is the status of the construction on the border wall these days?"

164 miles complete, as per the Chief of Engineers (LTG Semonite). A few more miles are added every week, at an increasing rate (see image below for several months worth of weekly reports, courtesy of Freeper foldspace). They are building like gangbusters - this year is going to be like nothing ever before in our history, in terms of fortifying our border. It is a full scale deployment, with thousands of people working on it full time, and the biggest tidal wave of new money ever ($12 billion - twice as much as the last three years combined) being put toward it this year.

In Post 6, I lay out that the Trump Administration has gotten enough money to complete the needed wall, and aims to get it all obligated on contracts, before the end of the year. Construction would continue at a high rate through 2021 to deliver on those contracts, but the most important miles are being done first (except that Texas lags, because of land acquisition challenges).

The Government Webpage is now up (https://www.cbp.gov/border-security/along-us-borders/border-wall-system ), with Border Wall System info.
