ScienceDaily (Nov. 21, 2008) — Non-white medical students are more likely to embrace orthodox medicine and reject therapies traditionally associated with their cultures. That is one finding from an international study that measures the attitudes of medical students toward complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). While seemingly counter-intuitive, white students view CAM more favorably than their non-white counterparts, the study authors say.CAM is the common, collective term that describes non-orthodox therapies considered not intrinsic to the politically dominant health system of a particular society or culture.Despite the growing popularity of CAM, many medical schools do not include CAM teachings within basic...

Engineers at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University have developed a continuously variable transmission based on a cam and a planetary gearset that might increase fuel efficiency 3-5%. Much work has gone into the field of continuously variable transmissions, which can be categorized as traction, belt, ratcheting and hydrostatic drives. The new cam-based system is a ratcheting drive type. Ratcheting drives take rotational input, convert it to an oscillating motion of varying amplitude, and then rectify this motion through a number of one-way clutches to a rotational output. One of the distinctive attributes of the new transmission developed...

The man is alleged to have created a Trojan horse program distributed through peer-to-peer file sharing networks, like Kazaa. The Trojan horse could be hidden in a file, and once downloaded gave the hacker remote access to the victim's computer. The Trojan installed...

St. Helens that happened over the weekend, I checked the St. Helens cam; and according to the picture on that page, it's supposed to be up on "Monday, September 28, 2004". Somebody did NOT realize that this was a leap year, apparently. So maybe it will be up by tomorrow in case St. Helens burps. Liberalism Is Unpatriotic Kyle Williams During the dead heat of this election year, sharp criticism is in the air against President Bush, and this being a post-war time, critics are out in further attacks over the legitimacy of the war in Iraq. In return, these critics are being attacked by conservatives and by the administration; thus an all-out political war is ongoing. These critics must concur with Hillary Clinton, who, in April 2003, shouted out to a group of supporters, "I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow...
