Gov. DeWine reverses reversal – face masks will now be required for employees

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the second time in two days, the state of Ohio’s mandatory requirements for businesses reopening this month have been revised, now requiring face masks for employees and distributors in all business sectors slated to reopen in May. This comes after the state revised its requirements on Tuesday from required for everyone to highly recommended.

According to the updated Responsible Protocols on the state’s Responsible RestartOhio plan website, the following applies to all businesses that will be allowed to reopen in May: “Require face coverings for employees and recommend them for clients/customers at all times.”

The state’s Sector Specific Operating Requirements adds additional caveats to the face mask requirement:

For Manufacturing, Distribution and Construction:

Face coverings are required for employees and distributors, unless not advisable by a healthcare professional, against documented industry best practices, or not permitted by federal or state laws/ regulations

For Consumer, Retail and Services:

Face coverings are required for all employees, unless not advisable by a healthcare professional, against documented industry best practices, or not permitted by federal or state laws/regulations

For General Office Environments:

Face coverings are required for all employees, unless not advisable by a healthcare professional, against documented industry best practices, or not permitted by federal or state laws/regulations

A face covering is not required if an employee is working alone in an enclosed office space

On Monday, Gov. Mike DeWine announced the state’s plan to begin reopening Ohio, beginning with medical procedures and operations being allowed beginning May 1, offices, manufacturing, distribution and construction allowed to reopen on May 4, and retail, service and consumer businesses allowed to reopen on May 12.

A requirement for all business sectors reopening under the original plan was that all employees, guests, customers and clients wear face masks while working or visiting the businesses.

On Tuesday, DeWine walked that requirement back during his daily coronavirus news briefing, saying that the policy was “offensive” to some Ohioans.

“Within the last 24 hours, it's really been made clear to me that a mandatory mask requirement for people who are shopping, going into a retail business, is offensive to some of our fellow Ohioans,” DeWine said. “I’ve also heard, for some people, this is a difficult thing to do.”

He said he received a call from a mother who shared her story about her son with autism and the challenges wearing a mask would bring to her and her son.

DeWine said that he strongly recommended everyone getting back to work wear a face mask, but the choice to wear one would be left to the individual.

Then, quietly and without a news release or social media announcement, the state’s ResponsibleRestart website was again updated to reflect that masks would be required, but just for employees and distributors, not clients, customers or guests.

DeWine is scheduled to address the state at 2 p.m. Wednesday during his daily coronavirus briefing, which will be broadcast live by News 5 on air and online.

The face mask requirement has been a matter of controversy since it was announced. A Facebook poll on the subject posted to the News 5 Facebook page Tuesday showed 64% of our viewers supported a mandatory mask requirement, while 36% did not think it should be mandatory. The topic has generated a high volume of comments across our social media platforms.

The crown is becoming heavy for Herr DeWine. Early on, he was in his glory, laying down the law with princess Acton by his side.

Now that we’re coming to the end of Herr DeWine’s excellent adventure, and he’s starting to see their will be consequences for his dabbling at being a monarch, he doesn’t know whether to spit or go blind.

He’s a man of average to below average intelligence, and no spine. Can you tell I don’t like him?

I’m going to get some yellow six-pointed stars with “Jude” written under them, and wear them on my outer clothing every time I go out in public, as a means of demonstrating against this tyrannical stupidity. I encourage everybody else to do the same.

Is she a failed doctor? I couldn’t find anything, but I suspected she’s not very good. All I know is her ultra sincere tone annoys the heck out of me.

Look on the bright side, Buckeyes.

Emperor Gruesome I of Caliph-phony-a has decided on the face mask issue for employees: No need for them because you’re closed until I decide when the small business economy is screwed enough.

Very good doctors don’t generally end up in public health schlub jobs. Good rule of thumb.

DeWine’s daughter, Alice DeWine, lost her race for Greene County Ohio prosecutor yesterday to a more conservative candidate.

Alice DeWine, like her dad is a gun grabber RINO who was well financed by out of state PAC.

I was on the phone this morning with the owner of a used & new vinyl record store on Long Island where I’ve been a customer for many years..... He said he’s setting up private appointments for customers to come and pick up records, but he won’t let them into the store....they call in their order in advance and he hands them the records at the door..... So I asked him why he won’t let them into the store to look around, since they are private appointments and his store is not actually open to the public...... and here was his million dollar answer...”my wife would kill me, she sits home and watches the news all day and she’s scared to death”.....I know there are a lot of strong women out there who are against this extended lockdown, including many female small business.... but I’ll bet there are a lot more male small business owners with Nervous Nellie wives..... and they are the primary targets for all of this fear porn on TV

First, it is DuhWhine.

Second,

“Face coverings are required for all employees, unless not advisable by a healthcare professional...”

Our company nurse assistant just said masks were not required.

An optometrist said masks would fog up glasses so a mask shouldn’t be worn while driving lift trucks.

DuhWhine is an idiot. So did he bother to define what type of mask or even how it should be worn? Frickin idiot.

But then many Freepers say trust in gov and listen to The Experts.

I was wondering about that.

DeWine: "Those bastards rejected my little girl! Make them wear masks....forever!"
