There have been studies about the efficacy of cloth masks. A double layer, tight woven, snug fitting one is much better than nothing. Add a pocket for a piece of non woven material, efficacy goes up. Pull a circle of nylon stocking over the mask, snug fit improves greatly, can be as good as surgical masks.
If everyone wears one, the effect multiplies. Conceivably, you could get a 95% drop in transmission with good homemade masks all around. 80% outgoing protection and 80% incoming protection = 20% outgoing failure × 20% incoming failure = 4 % transmission. I wouldn’t expect anything that good in practice, but 50% reduction could bring R0 under 1.
Thank you for your own courtesy.
Sad.
Ask yourself, who generally accuses others of acting like they do....then maybe look in the mirror and see what a Dem looks like.
And I was right.
Plus, Pence himself said this before his wife stepped in it:
"When the CDC issued guidelines about wearing a mask, it was their recognition that people that may have the coronavirus could prevent the possibility of conveying the virus to someone else by wearing a mask," he said.
"And since I don't have the coronavirus, I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible healthcare personnel, and look them in the eye and say thank you."
So he clearly understood but made the decision that he didnt think he needed to wear one.
But does wearing a mask makes it impossible to look people in the eye? Those people he was looking in the eye were all wearing masks. VP Pence and his wife also said he was regularly tested (at least once a week). But do they not understand that being tested does not give one immunity nor does being tested regularly guarantee that one hasnt become infected after their last test?
It was an unnecessary mistake on the part of Pence and his team. No admittedly it will be gone in a day or two but I doubt it will be the last blunder the campaign makes.
