Yes and no.
Governors have been given a lot of power by their states, and since these powers have been used relatively rarely, they haven't been abused enough to be litigated. And, no, we aren't free--just semi-free. Various officials, including police, can abuse the hell out of you and claim "qualified immunity" because they are in a public position. They can't just shoot you (because of cameras), but they can physically and legally abuse you, and getting redress requires a long and expensive appeal process.
Post 3- That should be a sobering explanation of reality.
Yes, we are free; no one has disallowed our Constitutions.
What I think is happening is we are allowing ourselves to be bullied.
I just saw an article this morning about this very topic -- the USSC is going to be taking up a bunch of cases dealing with it.
You’re right - they can - but pull that happy crap with the wrong person, the wrong patient person, and it’s like playing Russian roulette. Not a wise choice.
Speak for yourself. I am free.
“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”
-Robert A Heinlein
What Wolf has done is deprive Pennsylvanian’s of their constitutional rights. It does not matter what powers he thinks he has, he cannot violate the US Constitution. He and every Rat like him need to pay for what they have done. No excuses.
What are the metrics used to enable this ‘power’? What thresholds for each metric should be met? How do you differentiate between this virus and any other to cross such thresholds?
Nobody seems to be able to answer such questions. This is my problem with it all. Therefore it’s just an excuse to impose tyranny and strip us of liberty. The fact that we have ‘lists’ of what is allowed, which are just arbitrary opinions, means they’re picking economic winners and losers. This can only lead to the weaponizing of such powers and begs for corruption, who can write the biggest check to get back to work?
...too many questions, no where near good enough answers.
“...no, we aren’t free—just semi-free...”
Actually the word free is a superlative, there is no semi-free, we are NOT free and have not been free. There ARE varying degrees of oppression and we are VERY oppressed, probably far more oppressed than the colonists ever were under the English monarchy. We have government not only oppressive but in many ways absurd.
