Government bureaucrats with guaranteed jobs sure seem to have cavalier attitude towards the devastation of the private sector their policies are causing. The daily press briefing by the mayor of Los Angeles is stomach churning. He and his gang are backslapping each other for all the hard work their agencies are doing getting masks, etc. Meanwhile half the city is unemployed and no one in the press asks him questions like how many more are projected to lose their job if the lockdown continues through the summer.

Yesterday I had a strange yet somehow familiar name keep popping into my consciousness. Doctor Faustus. In the past I have heard the adjective Faustian used in a negative sense, although I never knew its exact meaning. In unwelcome recurrent thoughts, the name connected with Doctor Fauci. I was on the phone reporting this strange occurrence to a friend who promptly did a search on Doctor Faustus. The result is enough to run chills up your spine. I have no specialty in ancient literature, so I have no idea why this came into my mind. I certainly never have read the story by Christopher Marlowe from the 1500’s. Look it up if you dare.
