Tribune Publishing and the Chicago Tribune Guild agreed to furlough all unionized Chicago Tribune newsroom employees making over $40,000 for three weeks.
The furloughs, a cost-saving measure, will be taken in one-week increments from May through July.
Furloughed employees will continue to receive health benefits, as well as unemployment insurance, but no salary.
Furloughs for nonunion employees across the company were announced last month, when Tribune Publishing also implemented permanent pay cuts of up to 10% for nonunion employees making $67,000 a year or more.
Tribune Publishing -- which owns the Chicago Tribune, the Baltimore Sun and the New York Daily News, among other publications -- is scheduled to report its first-quarter earnings on May 22.

Geez, what you and I have been pointing out for years is happening.
When the fish wraps decide to PO daily and insult daily about 40=50% of their possible customer eventually that will catch up with.
It is a safe bet that their targeted people for their ads with focus groups are saying that they no longer read that fish wrap, the advertisers are looking at the internet to advertise.
A couple of decades ago, about every city/county in the SF bay area had at least one radical left weekly newspaper. These lefties during the Clinton years drove away readers, potential readers and advertisers.
Now, basically none of those fish wraps exist, except as a few once a week flyer with grocery, home rental ads and auto ads with minimal or no left wing bs.
Some newspapers are begging for donations from their readers to stay open. Good luck.

The Chicago Tribune is very bad for Illinois. It is RINO. It puts a republican spin on democrat ideas. It tries to act moderate but is in actuality as liberal as they come. It should go away. It has no positive value.

Also, why should the business survivors like ACE, HD, Walmart and Costco waste money on ads, when people/customers are lined up to get into every store all day.
Don’t give any money to any business or charity that was even luke warm to this lock down. Many people caused the lock down then want others to pay for the damage. No. They get what they sow.
