Mapping reveals impact 14 miles of planned border wall has on Laredo

Through a public information request, Border Report has learned the projected position for 14 of the 69 miles of border wall that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security plans to build between Laredo and the river. The 14 miles are to start at the international railroad bridge near the riverfront outlet mall in downtown Laredo and run northwest to Pico Road and the private and historic DeAnda Ranch (from Downtown to the NW)...

“Overall what we’re seeing is that the government is really moving forward with all these cases. There is no slowing down in terms of surveying,” said Karla Vargas, a lawyer for the Texas Civil Rights Project, a nonprofit organization that offers legal advice to homeowners who are fighting a border wall from being built on their properties.

“One of the new hot spots is Laredo and we do see that those cases are moving forward,” Vargas said.

CBP officials on May 8 announced that an Alabama company (Caddell) had been awarded a $275 million contract to construct these 14 miles of bollard wall. It was the first contract awarded in Laredo.

Construction is to begin in January.

“Although an approximately 14 mile portion of the approximately 69 miles has been contracted, CBP will continue to accept information and comments from stakeholders for all of the approximately 69 miles of planned border wall as the environmental planning process continues. (formal comment period closes this Thursday, 21 May)

“if you voted for Trump because he wanted to secure the border you are not being let down.”

Thanks Ajnin, its good to hear, from an insider.

One of the amazing things about President Trump, is that he can be so effective, in general. He understands people and knows how to get things done. He is committed to doing the right thing, and applies himself to it with great discipline.

So he is super effective on border security. But also on building up our Military, destroying ISIS, deregulating our economy, reworking our trade deals and reforming our judiciary.

I won’t be surprised if he makes a breakthrough on Arab-Israeli relations.

Amazing man. What a Godsend for America.

Thanks for your unique insight into Laredo.

In a significant way, this new Trump-style super Wall System, is likely to reverse effects from past lax enforcement.

As you say, good fences make good neighbors, and locks help keep honest people honest. Without the predatory criminal gangs being drawn to the town, traditional Mexican culture, characterized by Christianity and family can rise as again bigger factors on the area.

“How will this affect crime in and around Laredo”

It is going to be good, the only question is how good.

It seems to me that a second Trump term will be marked by significant success against Mexican Cartels - and that in itself would be huge for crime near the border as well.

Just as President Trump issued Executive Order 13767 (Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements) the first week in his Presidency (but it took years for the Wall Program to reach its current full scale deployment), he also put the wheels in motion for major operations against the cartels (which also have long lead times to set the right conditions).

I believe the barrier alone will be strongly transformative on the American side, in terms of unorganized (street) crime, and will help lessen the value of the Mexican side to the cartels. But paired with a strategic defeat of the cartels, and the new USMCA trade deal, it will create a renaissance in the region.

“People are getting cleaning and cleaning out of years of hoarded and stored stuff done.”

That is happening for me, all right.

This quarantine does seem like a turning point for a lot of trends. Thank God we have some good and strong leadership in the White House, as the pieces are shaking out.

Wow, thank you very much for your dedicated service!

I often tell the Armchair Engineers here on FR that Trump is giving the border patrol what then wanted and need, and it’s great to have your firsthand confirmation.
