Remdesivir for the Treatment of Covid-19 — Preliminary Report
New England Journal of Medicine ^ | 5/22/20 | Various Doctors

Posted on 05/23/2020 11:26:42 AM PDT by LRoggy

BACKGROUND

Although several therapeutic agents have been evaluated for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), none have yet been shown to be efficacious.

METHODS

We conducted a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of intravenous remdesivir in adults hospitalized with Covid-19 with evidence of lower respiratory tract involvement. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either remdesivir (200 mg loading dose on day 1, followed by 100 mg daily for up to 9 additional days) or placebo for up to 10 days. The primary outcome was the time to recovery, defined by either discharge from the hospital or hospitalization for infection-control purposes only.

RESULTS

A total of 1063 patients underwent randomization. The data and safety monitoring board recommended early unblinding of the results on the basis of findings from an analysis that showed shortened time to recovery in the remdesivir group. Preliminary results from the 1059 patients (538 assigned to remdesivir and 521 to placebo) with data available after randomization indicated that those who received remdesivir had a median recovery time of 11 days (95% confidence interval [CI], 9 to 12), as compared with 15 days (95% CI, 13 to 19) in those who received placebo (rate ratio for recovery, 1.32; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.55; P<0.001). The Kaplan-Meier estimates of mortality by 14 days were 7.1% with remdesivir and 11.9% with placebo (hazard ratio for death, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.47 to 1.04). Serious adverse events were reported for 114 of the 541 patients in the remdesivir group who underwent randomization (21.1%) and 141 of the 522 patients in the placebo group who underwent randomization (27.0%).

Is this BETTER?

Saint Fauci touted this drug and it BOMBED. Only helped those also taking oxygen supplementation.

Meanwhile Amy Klobuchar had to admit her husband did take Hydroxycholoroquine and it DID WORK: https://www.rightjournalism.com/audio-failed-presidential-candidate-amy-klobuchar-finally-and-reluctantly-admits-that-her-husband-took-hydroxychloroquine/?fbclid=IwAR0smN4wul4nSrX4nh1PeQTcGBNUldOL94vX9wW9yYN1tt-9dekWKMJr4vc

If that decreased death rate holds up, it will be well worth pursuing on a large scale.

In addition, the faster recovery time will also be a major development (fewer hospital beds and resources being taken up, lessened chance of complications).

This is just one study, but reducing the death rate from 11.9% to 7.1% is a 68% reduction. If a million people were infected and experiencing the same effects as the test group, Remdesivir might save 48,000 lives.

Only 21% serious side effects! This is clearly the way to go! To hell with the Trump drug HCQ! /s

DAMMIT!!!

We're going to have to go back the the cheap, readily available, effective treatment the Orange Man Bad advocated over a month ago!

too bad about the 150,000 that died since then...

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

The politicization of coronavirus treatments is the single weirdest thing about the whole pandemic. That Red Team is rooting for one particular treatment, and Blue Team is scoffing at it, neither side with a ton to go on scientifically, is a new low for our nation.

Saint Fauci touted this drug and it BOMBED.

They unblinded the study early. Remdesivir was effective enough that it would have been unethical to keep it from the placebo group

We need more bombs like this.

How is it ethical to give someone a placebo and watch them die?

In situations like this, “placebo” usually means “best prevailing treatment,” not “sugar pill.”

Studies with HCL+ when given in first stages shows 90%+ recovery. Seems like HCL is the best thing out there currently when used with Zinc and an antibiotic.

And HCL had less side effects and in studies from France and here had a 90% plus cure rate and in the case of the NY Dr either one or no deaths.

The disease itself has a 90+% recovery, with no treatment at all.

Surely giving them the official big pharma drug and having a quarter of the patients developing permanent liver damage and multiple organ failure is preferable to the alternative of giving them the HCQ/Zpack/Zinc cocktail which exposes them to the risk of runny stool for a few days. /s

Regardless of what happened in the placebo group, a 21% rate of serious adverse reactions is terrible. It's not much of a selling point to say, "Our drug only had 21% serious negative side-effects compared to 27% in the placebo group!"

These are top ICU experts saying they have a 3 step covid protocol which is close to 100% effective

Remsdesivir is an expensive moneymaker for the drug companies. Worthless.
