It’s their money. Nothing wrong with posting bail for someone. The judge sets the bail, so if he really wants the defendant to show up he can require a bail bond, which makes the defendant liable for the full amount of the bond if he skips town, and possibly require a guarantor or assets in security.
That’s the thing- this fund received some 20 million in donations during the rioting...in a normal year they only spend about $100,000 on bail for the ‘poor.’
Even with the 20 million windfall, they self reported that they have spent about $250,000 on bail for rioters [not including their usual bailouts, presumably.]
What are they doing with the remaining millions? That 19+ million has to go somewhere as it is a ‘nonprofit.’
So, they are going to have to launder it through a bunch of other nonprofits ...
