BUT! Just learning a lady named Cece Thomas created another petition to stop the original petition. So far, it has almost 4,000 signatures. Cece said,The petition to city council begins with, I am starting this petition to stop Daisy Howard from trying to have my hometowns name changed. She does not understand the history of our town, she just doesnt like the name.

My Mothers name was Betty Jo Lynch. Using these fools rationale I suppose I should be out tipping over her headstone so some BLM moron feels better?

“the racist killings of African Americans.”
No, “lynching” means vigilante justice, with no court system, just immediate vengeful reprisal. People might re-think it to “the Old West”, where plenty white criminals might be strung up.

Since Washington was a slave owner, we should rename D.C. I propose it be henceforth be named Trumptown.

“Lynch” as a name has certain connotations that have nothing to do with the founder of this municipality. As a verb or an adjective, “lynch” has a very negative history.
Much the same thing may be said of a person, Robert Bork. His name is forever linked with really scurrilous political moves (by Senator Ted Kennedy) to prevent Judge Bork from gaining a position on the Supreme Court, and to say a nominee to an appointive position has been most unfairly treated is to say that he (or she) was “borked”.

Such a shame this doesn’t matter to the idiot starting this petition:
Founding of Lynchburg
The Lynch Ferry across the James River was established by the family about 1745. In 1757, seventeen year old John Lynch took over control of the ferry business. Years later, first in 1784 and again in 1786, Lynch petitioned the General Assembly of Virginia for a charter to establish a town on the bluffs above the ferry upon land Lynch had inherited from an older brother. The 1786 petition was granted and the town of Lynchburg was founded.
>>>> Lynch freed his own slaves during his lifetime and consistently supported the antislavery movement. <<<<
To: sevinufnine
Just call it Linchpinburg. There, problem solved.

I agree!
They should also rename McDonald’s because Old MacDonald had a farm. In the south, farms were/are called “plantations”. Plantations used to be worked by SLAVES! /s
