Weve finally found somebody more pathetic than sports journalists who wont stick to sports: science journalists who wont stick to science. Okay, okay, you can argue that they havent done that since they got climate change religion. And youd be right.
But now Popular Mechanics is aiding and abetting vandalism. On June 15, it published How to Topple a Statue Using Science. Really. Actually, the title of the browser tab is How to Remove a Racist Statue. The distinction is a good idea. You dont want our fine young Year Zero-ers accidentally erasing, say, an abolitionist.
According to PMs James Stout, From Bristol, England to Birmingham, Alabama, people all over the world have been grappling with the legacy of racism by tossing their grappling hooks around the heads of problematic monuments. Thats one way of putting it. More:
Should you happen to find yourself near a statue that you decide you no longer like, we asked scientists for the best, safest ways to bring it to the ground without anyone getting hurtexcept, of course, for the inanimate racist whos been dead for a century anyway.

Two things have happened in the past few years —
1) EVERYTHING became political. It seems that I can’t buy socks without somehow making a political statement.
2) Half the country (my half) is being told to shut up and not talk about our racist, hateful, oppressive political viewpoints.
So (in theory) everything has been abandoned to the Communists who are now free to push their indoctrination with impunity and without any counter-argument permitted.
This sucks.
Several years ago Popular Mechanics started sending a free copy of their magazine to a fictional person at my address. They have been sending it for years now. I have always chalked it up to them cheating their advertisers by claiming larger circulation numbers than what was true.
There are two or three other magazines that do the same thing.
Bring that sucker down without anyone getting hurt.

The word science is one of the most abused words in the English language.
(In case you don't recognize it, it's the statue of V.I. Ulyanov {Lenin} in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.)
Please publish a list of all Obama statue locations, thanks
Except the ignorant fools are toppling anti-slavery statues.
I’m getting very sick of the so called “authorities” refusing to stop these kind of historical desecrations and at the same time being more than willing to jail Americans that would take any action to preserve their history.
THAT is something that can be remedied from the top down and the fact that it isn’t being handled is really starting to pi$$ me off!
It's just a matter of time before some idiot does tries to do something to our national icon.
Popular Mechanics??? Say it ain’t so, Joe!
That national icon should’ve been sent back to France before it arrived. It has been an open invitation to mass illegal aliens and we’ve been going downhill ever since.
How and when did that get there?.
It appears long before they published this tripe, they must have had an issue "How To Cancel Your Subscription to Leftist Drivel".
I had recently turned down a job opportunity in Seattle that would barring the current political situation would have been lucrative. Did I dodge a bullet?
The reason I gave for turning it down was that I would probably be arrested for urinating on that statue.
SMDH! Is there even a print version of PM anymore?
Yep, I saw one. Almost as bad as the Audubon brainwashing raq.
In HS I subscribed to Pop Mechanics. Read every one, multiple times. Still have a couple around. Did some of the projects.
In one brief sentence you have pin-pointed what exactly what has been roiling my gut (for a long time now).
In 1993 the statue was bought by an American who had found it lying in a scrapyard. He brought it home to Washington state, but died before he could carry out his plans for displaying the Soviet era memento.
Since 1995 the statue has been held in trust waiting for a buyer, standing on temporary display for the last 25 years on a prominent street corner in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. It has become a Fremont landmark, and frequently has been decorated, or vandalized. The statue has sparked political controversy, including criticisms for communist chic and not taking the historic meaning of Lenin and communism seriously, or for taking it all too seriously, or by comparing the purported acceptance of such a charged political symbol to the removal of Confederate monuments and memorials. The monument is situated on private property, complicating efforts to remove it.
And there you have it.
Thank you wonder if he made any money off his investment.
I have received unsolicited subscriptions to SI, Seventeen, and some others addressed to previous residents at my address who have not lived here for 25 years or so. I have wondered why, and your explanation makes good sense.
