The Atlanta Police Department has refuted rumors regarding officers walking out on the job, but admitted to a higher number of call outs. Reports of protests came after two ex-officers were charged Wednesday in the death of Rayshard Brooks, just five days after his death.
Though there has been an increase in call outs, the department reassured they still have enough resources to keep the city safe.

Also saw something about dispatchers walking, but that's unconfirmed.
Looks like this is turning into a mess, and the DA should change his name to Mike Nifong.
Also, apparently neighboring Coweta County (southwest of Fulton county) is telling APD officers they are welcome to apply for positions there.
“Sure, Jan”
Whistling past the graveyard...
I have a lot of family in the Atlanta metro area. They said the Mayor is all over the news trying to deny the rumors, but the truth on the ground is that there is nary a cop to be seen anywhere.
My daughter also affirmed the statement above that APD is calling other jurisdictions for assistance.
The story keeps changing every couple of hours.
Someone is using semantics to ask “Define ‘Walk-Out’ please.”
They will all end up being fired for an illegal strike, then a bunch of GOP politicians will complain about unions.
I guess if I lived in Zone 6 I wouldn’t want them putting out a press release, “Zone 6 will have no cops tonight, party on.”
Atlanta Police Department denies rumors of officer walkouts
We’ll find out tomorrow if the crime tally has spiked upward now wont we!!
I saw one post last night that said the publically available dispatch calls were way down. Whether they are o1ff the job or just not interacting with anyone, it will show up in things like arrest reports, or lack thereof.
The officers ran out—there were no walkouts!
I live about an hour north of Atlanta, and my county’s sheriff’s office is doing the same - advertising for police officers who want to work in a supportive community where they are appreciated. Obviously focusing the ads on the Atlanta PD. (Our small town’s sheriff’s office just announced their newest hire - he came here after spending 27 years in the Atlanta PD. It must feel like an entirely different world to gim.)
They can deny it but there are almost no cops on the street in Fulton county. There are reports most of them are filling out applications for positions outside Fulton. Who can blame them?
