Oakland's school board voted unanimously Wednesday evening to abolish the school district police force by January, adopting the "George Floyd Resolution to Eliminate the Oakland Schools Police Department."
Citing the disproportionate arrests of Black students by Oakland's school police, as well as the district's "obligation to promote the healthy development of each one of its students" and the many alternative ways to handle discipline inside schools, the board directed the superintendent to take steps required to eliminate the department.
From the 2015-2016 school year through 2019-2020, Black students have accounted for 73 percent of arrests in city schools but just 26 percent of enrollment, according to the resolution.
This "preemptive policing," according to the resolution, is undermining the economic and public health of Oakland's Black community and restricting access to graduation and opportunity.
"This moment is a culmination of years of hard fought advocacy, youth and family leadership and community work," the Black Organizing Project, which has pushed for years for Oakland Unified School District to eliminate its police, said in a statement. "We are overwhelmed with emotion and filled with gratitude for this historic win," the group said in its statement.

“disproportionate arrests of blacks” sounds bad, until you consider disproportionate arrests of MEN, which is even more lopsided.
Incarceration rate of blacks is 5.5x that of whites.
Incarceration rate of MEN is 11x (!) the rate of women!

Never used to need a “school police force”. What changed that we need one now?.....hmmm...
I recall down home there was an intersection with a stop sign. There had been fatalities at the intersection, but calls for a traffic light were dismissed as there hadn’t been enough fatalities to warrant the cost and installation. Finally the magic number of fatalities had occurred and a traffic light was installed. All was well...for a while. Some years later it was determined the traffic light should be removed as the intersection was not dangerous enough to warrant one. There is no logic like that of governmental bureaucrats.
These morons didn’t learn a single thing from the lessons offered up by their equally moronic cousins in CHAZ or CHOP.

Yes, I spent a lot of time there in the 70’s when my cousin worked with LEOs in the area.

So is the next order from the Oakland City Council to be that more white cheerleader girls need to be arrested or expelled to reduce the disparate impact numbers attenuated to black boys in the school system?

They’ve said that the ‘savings’, in budget, will now go to additional nurses and counselors.
And, that in a true emergency, they’ll now just dial 911.
Good luck with that! Maybe the OPD will send a few ‘counselors’ over to help w/their emergency situation.
