Texas' Hispanic population on pace to be largest share of state by 2021

Texas’ Hispanic population has grown by more than 2 million since 2010, according to new population estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau, and the state's demographer now predicts that Hispanics will be the state's largest population group by mid-2021.

An annual gain of 201,675 between July 2018 and July 2019 pushed the count of Hispanic residents to more than 11.5 million, the census estimates show. Although annual growth has slowed slightly in recent years, the new figures put a sharp point on how quickly the Hispanic population continues to climb. The annual growth in Hispanic residents has outpaced the combined growth among white, Black and Asian residents every year since 2010.

Yes, there are always lots of anecdotes when minorities get discussed here, but the stats present a different picture. People need to understand. No one is saying that ALL hispanics, black, indians, gays, or whatever are leftists. People are still individuals and many will be free thinkers. But it’s a fact that the Dems in Texas can always count on receiving about two-thirds of the hispanic vote each time without doing much of anything, so an increase means a tougher time for the GOP.

“If Texas goes blue, there won’t be another Republican president.”

Texas will never go blue. The folks in Amarillo, Lubbock, Waco, Lufkin, Midland, Wichita Falls, and Dumas will always vote solid Republican.

That may be so in your personal experience, but the fact is that Hispanics in Texas as a group routinely vote Democrat by large margins. The margin is not as big as what is seen in California, but it’s still large.

The number of instances where a Republican broke even with a Democrat in a high profile race in Texas are few.

Blacks want their own communities? There are already de facto black communities such as the south side of Chicago. Are they saying they want the southside of Chicago to be its own City separate from the rest of Chicago? I’m sure there is a process in the laws of Illinois to create a new separate City if they so desire.

Sure, just ask California.

Maybe, even some formerly conservative universities like A&M and Texas Tech seem to have lost their minds. Are there enough people in the cities you mentioned to offset the larger Texas cities - Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin? I kind of doubt it.

Wait until Hispanics become the “favored” minority and blacks are shoved to the back of the bus...Blacks have never been able to deliver an entire state like Hispanics have with California...

Texas has become such a Red Republican State for one reason, and that is white voters consistently voting Republican by large margins, often over 70%.

So as the white share of the Texas electorate shrinks as the white share of the overall population shrinks, and the Hispanic share of the electorate grows, it is almost a certainty that Texas will become a battleground state. It will become purple. Close races like the one Ted Cruz won against the loathsome O’Rourke will be common, and Democrats will win some of them. It’s pretty much inevitable at this point.

If white Texans remain a mostly conservative and Republican voting group then the GOP can avoid the fate of the California GOP as an irrelevant force statewide. That might be enough to keep Texas purple or slightly leaning red for a while, but the era of dominance in Texas is coming to an end.

It demographics, plain and simple.

A much more recent example is Virginia. From 1980 to 2004, 24 years, Virginia had never voted to elect a Democrat president. Republicans held supermajorities in the state legislature. Today, there are no Republicans holding statewide office in the Virginia Legislature.

Who thought Virginia would flip so completely and so fast from solid Republican to straight California. I sure didn’t.

State universities in red states are very often run by imports from blue-state universities.

I think the growth of Fedzilla had a lot to do with it. They have to live somewhere.

You can see county after county in Texas that vote Republican at rates 90%. Those voters are not going away. Texas is strong Republican.

I know and it sucks. For some reason these formerly conservative universities think it enhances their reputations to bring in a bunch of boneheads from Ivy league schools.

Exactly. And it’s not just the voting for Democrats by large margins that calls into question this alleged conservatism, but also the fact that the Democrat party has moved ever more left and radical as the power and influence of non-white immigrant groups has grown within the Democratic Party.

You’d think if the alleged social and cultural conservatism of Hispanics was as strong as we hear, then they’d exert some pressure and influence on the Democrat party to be less radical on social issues. But it doesn’t happen. You’d think we’d see a lot Hispanic blue dog Democrats who are conservative on social issues, but we don’t.

“Blacks want their own communities? There are already de facto black communities such as the south side of Chicago”

They want to go further. 100% black police force, 100% black local politicians, no more gentrification allowed.

These are not the fringe blacks but mainstream blacks who are calling for this.
