The city's prosecutor Pierre Sennes said: "We've observed this morning that the fire started in three spots. This observation leads us to open an investigation for arson, an investigation to regional judicial police.
"The next phase will be working into the investigation, consultations, we will take a lot of statements. We will also verify the technical installations, the fire prevention installations, and again, we are waiting for this expert who could give us interesting elements."
Fire Chief Laurent Ferlay told a press briefing in front of the cathedral that the blaze was not as big as the one that engulfed Notre Dame Cathedral in April 2019, and the damage is not as bad.
"I can confirm that we are not in the Notre Dame of Paris situation, rooftop is not affected," Ferlay told CNN affiliate BFM on Saturday.
"The damage is concentrated on the organ, which seems to be completely destroyed. Its platform is very unstable and could collapse," he said.

And then we will blame everything on an electrical malfunction. Or maybe termites.
Or never come to a conclusion, as appears to be the case Notre Dame fire.

Luckily there still are pipe organ makers around. If only there were more people interested in playing them...
Mosques should be burned to the ground too and watch the howling from the mediaVOMITS and terrorists! Yet the Christians just bend over and take it!! So sad...these are beautiful landmarks that bring many tourists to those sites!
Assuming it really is arson, it would be interesting to see which of the "usual suspect" troublemaker groups is responsible.
This being France with a large Arab/Muslim population known for violence and terrorist recruitment, an Islamic attack is a possiblity.
However, my money is on it being started by a radical Left group inspired by the example of Antifa/BLM in the US rather than Muslims. Just as our monuments are examples of "white oppressor" culture that has to be torn down, what better symbol could there be of traditional Western culture so hated by radicals than a gothic cathedral?
Of course, the third possibility is that you have a random arsonist who, in the fashion of a random mass shooter, just wants to make a name for himself by causing havoc and has no real political agenda at all.
Use it or lose it.
It is long past time for France to follow in the footsteps of Ferdinand and Isabella, and expel all Muslims.

I haven’t seen any updates on the San Gabriel Mission fire, whether it was arson or not.
