Agree about the coughing etc. It is easy to buy 3 cowboy scarfs and use them. You can wash them. No wasted money.
Yep - all the signs that require masks seem to omit the “properly” part..
Same in Nevada. I wear a mask on my chin and make like I am putting it on as I go in. Get a smile from the Enforcer. Keep it on my chin the rest of the visit. No one says a word.
Don't follow the arrows in the aisles either unless I am going that way anyway. Again, no comments.
Went to a Nevada casino yesterday. Masks required as per state mandate. Played Video Poker. Warnings plastered all over machine as to washing hands, social distancing, and again, the mask requirement. Each side of machine had a large plastic shield to keep you safe from your neighbor.
To play the game, you touched either the unsanitized screen or the buttons that everyone else had used.
Went to a supermarket that had the same rules, plus the one-way aisles and dots on the floor to maintain your distance. Checkout clerk was masked and behind a plastic shield. She scanned each item I had touched (and maybe someone else) with her bare hands.

If you are referring to HIPAA, it applies only to entities (e.g., hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, etc.) that keep medical records.

The ADA requires only that companies subject to that law make a “reasonable modification” or “accommodation” for disabled persons. In the case of a grocery store, asking you to do curbside pickup rather than in-store shopping would likely satisfy this requirement.
I agree with your assessment. So far no one is challenging me. I do live in a small town. We have a Wal Mart, Kroger, and a Sav-A-Lot. A lot of the employees are accustomed to seeing all of us locals. I think most of them would rather not have confrontations on this matter. I actually think it is more likely that another customer would get belligerent with me.
Well, the one thing I am certain of is that the people have clearly shown that they have either (or both) drank the Kool Aid or are properly cowed. There isn't any hope of any kind of serious civil disobedience. An open invitation to more and more tyranny.
There may have been a time when Americans respected legitimate authority while disrespecting illegitimate authority (despotism). If there was, it's long gone now.
