I was in Public yesterday. It was about 50-50 on masks.
Conclusion regarding masks that do not work
No RCT study with verified outcome shows a benefit for HCW or community members in households to wearing a mask or respirator. There is no such study. There are no exceptions. Likewise, no study exists that shows a benefit from a broad policy to wear masks in public (more on this below).
Furthermore, if there were any benefit to wearing a mask, because of the blocking power against droplets and aerosol particles, then there should be more benefit from wearing a respirator (N95) compared to a surgical mask, yet several large meta-analyses, and all the RCT, prove that there is no such relative benefit. Masks and respirators do not work.
Precautionary Principle turned on its head with masks
In light of the medical research, therefore, it is difficult to understand why public-health authorities are not consistently adamant about this established scientific result, since the distributed psychological, economic and environmental harm from a broad recommendation to wear masks is significant, not to mention the unknown potential harm from concentration and distribution of pathogens on and from used masks.
In this case, public authorities would be turning the precautionary principle on its head (see below).

Just wear the mask. Not sure how some people equate wearing a mask during a pandemic to communism.

I was at the local grocery store in my small Midwest town yesterday. It is one of the stores mentioned, so you can probably figure out which one it is. The new rule was supposed to go into effect yesterday. The sign upon entering said that face coverings were REQUESTED unless you had a medical condition. I saw lots of people without them, and nobody bothered anybody. Actually, there have been very few people who seem bothered by the choice to wear or not to wear one. I’m sure there are some Karens, but they don’t seem to be speaking up. (They might now though, since the head honchos said that coverings are required. That may be enough to embolden them.)
Buy an inhaler and tell them you're an asthmatic.

Just returned from my local Walmart. About 50% of the customers were wearing their masks improperly. The most common transgression was pulling the mask down where it did not cover the nose. I’m not at all sure what that will accomplish. Perhaps we need to deputize our local Karens to become mask inspectors/enforcers at grocery stores.

Temperature checks make more sense than mask orders, except that any number of things...even an abscessed tooth...can spike a fever.

LOL. Trump is “for masks” because he realizes the mask fascists are going to continue their terrorism through the November election and he can’t win that battle.
You can not deny that those screaming loudest for masks are the very same people that want Trump to lose. They are the same folks who screamed for more tests and now use those test results to bash Trump. Their Never Trump jihad is so predicable. Support them if you wish. I won’t be.
Few here wear them. You wear one if you like.
Well ... perhaps they are ... but try wearing a confederate flag mask or even a "Make America Breathe Again" mask and you'll see what real insanity looks like.
If a person were infected and capable of transmitting the disease, the mask just covering the mouth could still help a little if the individual coughs or sneezes.
Note: I do not like wearing the masks but have no choice now in stores.
The only upside I can think of to Trump embracing masks
is that it’s gonna be a whole lotta fun watching our tranny
state health secretary twisting itself into knots having to say that it actually agrees with Trump.
True, it’s all about levels of insanity in 2020.
