Trump: 'Shelter those at high risk, let the young and healthy go back to school and work'

President Donald Trump said the US should continue reopening its economy, despite a recent increase in the death rate from the coronavirus.

Speaking at a press briefing Thursday, the president said that given the disproportionate danger of the virus to the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, people in high risk groups should be “sheltered” from the virus, while the ‘young and healthy’ are permitted to return to work or school.

“We want to get the world back to what it was, and I think we'll have that, including great job numbers, including so many things that are happening so positive.”

“The data shows that children are lower risk from the China virus, very substantially. When children do contact the virus, they often have only very mild symptoms or none at all, and medical complications are exceedingly rare.”

Those that do face complications often have underlying medical conditions. Ninety-nine percent of all China virus hospitalizations are adults. And 99.96 percent of all fatalities are adults. That means that children are a tiny percentage -- less than 1 percent, and even a small percentage of 1 percent.”

“Given these considerations, we believe many school districts can now reopen safely, provided they implement mitigation measures and health protocols to protect families, protect teachers, and to protect students. And we do have to protect the teachers and the families also; we have to remember that.”

“Our strategy to safely reopen schools mirrors our approach nationwide. As we race toward the completion of a vaccine and therapeutics, the responsible path is to shelter those at highest risk, while allowing those at lower risk -- much lower, in the case of young children -- to resume work and school and -- as long as everyone practices vigilant hygiene and social distancing. We want that.”

The message Mike Pence should have been getting out there every day since April. Trump has to be quite pissed with him privately.

Anyone who disagrees with Trumps strategy on this is a “Science Denier”.

If the simpleminded straight-ticket Demwit stooges were really nuanced, they'd realize that conservatives, Republicans, and President Trump are nuanced, and don't fall for Demwit BS. Thanks Eleutheria5.

I just posted this on another thread. Someone tell me where I am wrong.....

241,000 children (age 5-14) have tested positive for COVID.
16 have died. That is a .006 mortality rate.
4,040,000 people have tested positive for COVID.
Children make up 6% of COVID infections.

Let’s say 36,000,000 people end up getting COVID (9X the number who have already caught it)
If 6% are children that would make 2,160,000 kids who get COVID.
If .006 of them die that would be 130 kids who die of COVID.

Of children who die of COVID, do you know what the #1 co-morbidity is??????...........OBESITY

How many MORE kids are going to die because their obesity gets worse not going to school or playing sports?

How many MORE kids than 130 will end up getting depression/anxiety/etc... and committing suicide due to lonliness and isolation.

These people are killing our children.

Another suggestion to investigate is that propylene glycol affected the virus. So maybe have a stage fog generator over the main entrance to the schools so everyone gets dosed coming in and going out. Obviously the simple solutions are not forthcoming from the CDC or FDA.

Big Pharm must have its cut of the pie. Hydroxychloroquine with zinc and an antibiotic? Can’t patent it. Send out the liars. Next. Sunshine?! How are we going to make money off of sunshine? Next...

The solution is to require teachers to do their zoom classes from the school property. They should have to report 30 minutes before the normal school day and not leave until 30 minutes after the normal school day. If they do not show up, they do not get paid. They could use the school’s resources for their classes. They would then have to work through all the child care issues like other people are doing and the schools would open immediately.

Of course he’s right, which is why the Left will do the opposite. They know full well if schools stay shut, the economy cannot reopen. In my county in we have a whopping 70 active cases with ZERO in the hospital for over a week. Yet our best case scenario is school open two days a week which will most likely consist of White Fragility indoctrination.

Uhhh, you haven't been paying attention, have you? Most school systems in Central VA are doing exactly that (but not using Zoom, since it's an insecure China-owned platform). The teachers will be working at school all day and video conferencing out to the students. The issue with teacher child care hasn't budged the school boards one bit. Most of the teachers I know want to go back full time; it's the school boards and administrations that want to keep kids home. Saves money (to pay the bloated bureaucracy in the administration) and hurts the economy (to attack Trump).

Restricting the movement of sick people is QUARANTINE.

Restricting the movement of healthy people is TYRANNY.

You don't want the kids inhaling that stuff...
