If you want the citizens to fight back against the tyrannical closing of so many businesses then see what happens when they stop sending the checks.

Like I say, you have a point. But there would have to be a coordinated “open up “ message by Republicans to harness that popular anger

Right now are the Republicans capable of coordinating themselves out of a paper bag?

The only clear message that GOP leaders like Mitch and Liz Cheney have given is “wear a mask”.

The largest employer in our area has reopened 75% of the operation yet only 25% returned. The rest were “looking after their elderly parents”, or are single parents who are looking after their kids, or are over 65 with diabetes,; many were part time workers making 260 week who now make $120 u/e benefits plus 600 week. So their weekly income from when they worked last has gone from 260 to 720 per week. Most of them are gaming the system and I’d be surprised if 1/100 were Trump supporters. I hear that those who returned to work are demoralized that cheating coworkers make
more than full time workers. My recommendation is make them whole to their last work....in this example give them 140 to total it out to 260 week.
They don’t deserve 720 week sitting home.

"The “general welfare” pledge in the preamble?"

I always had a problem with that clause. IMO, it is too sweeping. It is used in every liberal give-away the dem/socs want. Although the Founding Fathers were far beyond my intellect, I've always thought that they should not have included that clause. It is just too damn vague and open-ended, and is the root of many of our nation's problems.

Maybe if they had replaced it with "promote the equal opportunity" or left it out entirely, we wouldn't be heading towards socialism. Of course, the FF's had no way of seeing such a benign statement would be so abused when they included it.

Government has caused economic damage, has incurred itself liability. Public Health response arguments are weak, unfounded. Government lack of relief would lead to more damage.

Bingo! Also, Trump will absolutely lose if an extension is not passed.... As a business owner, I’m still not open..... It’s more than walk up business to my brick and mortar..... My corporate customers which are a major part of our summer business have budget freezes in place.....☹️ Without additional unemployment funds, all my furloughed employees would face eviction in 30 days. There isn’t jobs available in our area at a living wage.... even hustling multiple jobs won’t do...

The focus should be on getting America BACK TO WORK. And soon! It is a real tragedy that the real importance of the Presidency becomes BUYING IT....time to really go after the real problem...the DEMOCRAT GOVERNORS AND MAYORS who are crushing our economy POLITICALLY AND DELIBERATELY.

For the virus: the cure is far worse than the disease. Do the math.

Everything takes weeks/months when you have the work schedule the Senate does. There is no lazier bunch in the swamp than the U.S. Senators. And that is saying something.

Which part of the Constitution Authorizes the Congress to allocate funds to the Citizenry in the name of subsistence??

These parts:

"He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected..." - Article I, Section 1

"The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states..." - Article II, Section 2

"The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years..." - 17th Amendment

In other words, it's an election year.

It’s not the fault of many of those people that they don’t have jobs. The government screwed them.

The only clear message that GOP leaders like Mitch and Liz Cheney have given is “wear a mask”.

The Rs will eventually capitulate to the $600 dollars, but for every day that it remains expired, Pelosi, Schumer and the media will be blaming Trump. The Rs can't do politics and IMO that are ok with Trump losing.

Actually, my parents were Roosevelt democrats. They thought all of the programs that Rossevelt provided brought them out of the Depression. When, in actually, after nearly 12 years it was WW2. Roosevelt didn't do anything to help Hoover while Hoover was the lame duck. Hoover was powerless after Roosevelt was elected because the election was in November and Roosevelt didn't take office until March.

There is a PDF book that can be downloaded.

The Roosevelt Myth by John T. Flynn. It gives a great in-depth look at the Roosevelt administration.

Roosevelt sold the public on the idea that he was the 'savior'. When in actually his policies extended the Depression until WW2.

But, you can read it for yourself.

“ I admire your principles. I hope they don’t doom the GOP at the polls in Nov.”

The optics suck already. The House wants $600 extended to the end of the year, Senate wants $200 for some undetermined time frame.

I can’t believe with what’s at stake the GOP is being penny wise and dollar foolish.

Fifth amendment. Income is property. It’s a taking by mandated force of government and therefore equivalent to eminent domain which applies to takings in interest of public safety. People affected must be made whole via just compensation.

Maybe they’ll get back to work now. Or just live the way they used to live before the $600/week + state unemployment bonus. Of the 4 people I know who were getting that $600/wk, NOT ONE of them would have made that much if they were working their regular job - and 2 of them were not entitled to it to begin with because they were not working at all before the virus attacked!!! But anyone who applied - here in Florida, at least — got it.
